Topic: NHL invalid lineups only 2 teams used issue

1

We are aware of the issue of FC producing invalid lineups at times by not using players from at least 3 teams.

FC does not add a constraint, forcing lineups to use players from 3 teams, because it adds unnecessary overhead (slowing the optimizer down) and is almost never an issue. If you have a full slate of games, you are basically never going to see this become an issue. It becomes an issue if you have very few teams in your available pool, so any time there are less than 7 teams (so 3 games) or less we add a constraint forcing 3 teams to be used. In this situation there are so few teams, the extra overhead is not noticeable and the lineups are still produced at a reasonable speed. This solves that problem.

With NHL we have discovered a new issue that is causing players to only be used from 2 teams more frequently. This is when you are stacking players, which will typically make lineups with offensive players from only 2 teams. Now, you have to fill the goalie from a team you are not using, otherwise you will not use 3 teams. Since 2 goalies are out of play (assuming no offense vs goalie is set) you are left with a small pool of goalies, 2 of which when selected will make an invalid lineup.

We are working out the best way to handle this scenario, so that we don't add unnecessary overhead and we can stop these lineups from being produced.

In the meantime, one possible solution would be, if you are making 4+4 lineups, you can set the max players per team to 4, and you would never have an issue. If you are making 5+3 you could set it to 5, but then you would still have an issue when the goalie from the 3 stack is used, but it would eliminate some issues.

We will have a solution in place in the next day or two.

Maybe until you have a permanent solution you could flag lineups that only use players from two teams so that they can be manually changed.

No idea how feasible this is or if it's even worth it to implement before you have a permanent solution.

We have addressed this, it should not be an issue now in NHL. https://www.fantasycruncher.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2320
