I'm not sure what algorithm(s) are being used to generate the MLB projections, but I noticed that new players seem to get a serious, and probably unrealistic, boost in their projections if they come of the gate hot. I've noticed this with Metz, Pham and a couple of others. Just passing this on.
You are probably right. Since they have a small sample size, we don't have much to base projections on other than their small number of games. Thanks for letting us know, we will look into a way to temper the projections of those players.
