I do not like the first slates of any season, especially the WNBA. Until we have further data we really are just guessing at what rotations are going to look like especially this season with as much player movement as we have seen. With that said I recommend playing a little lighter volume-wise than you may normally play.

Favorite Plays

A’Ja Wilson

There are two things that I love about Wilson tonight. The first is the fact that the Aces moved on from Liz Cambage. With Cambage out of town that is going to mean even more rebounding chances and a higher usage for Wilson. The second is Brittney Griner’s legal situation. With Griner not able to play that should also help Wilson out though the Mercury did sign Tina Charles in the offseason.

Diamond DeShields

DeShields has fallen off since her first two seasons in the WNBA but has still been a solid player. Last year, DeShields on a loaded Chicago team averaged 11.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.2 steals, in 26.9 minutes of action. This season I am expecting DeShields to put up even better numbers as though she may be coming off the bench for the Mercury the situation in Phoenix is a better one for her in terms of projected minutes and projected usage as she should have no competition for shots on the second unit.

NaLyssa Smith

Smith was the second pick of the draft and if the preseason was any indication she was well worth the number two pick. In her two preseason games, Smith averaged 14 points, six rebounds, an assist, and 1.5 steals+blocks.
