The NBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings NBA DFS Picks – January 5, 2022 (1/5/22)

Please note that players on DraftKings and FanDuel have multi-position eligibility and may not always match their position between each other. In this article, we will be breaking down some of our favorite plays on the slate at their positions. Remember to always keep your eye on the news as the day progresses, as NBA news changes the slate frequently.

Guards

Duane Washington Jr. ($3,800 DK, $4,100 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
106.25 22.4% 0.75 6th 48.31

The Pacers are without Malcolm Brogdon, Chris Duarte, and Caris LeVert again tonight and that makes Washington Jr. an elite value. In the three previous games with Durate and Brogdon out (LeVert has missed the last two) Washington Jr. has started and played at least 30 minutes. In those three games, Washington Jr. is averaging 15 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals. Washington Jr. has at least 22 fantasy points in each of those games and is averaging 24.7 fantasy points per game in those games.

Bradley Beal ($10,500 DK, $9,900 FD)

116.50 31.1% 1.09 29th 50.82

There are a lot of elite players on this 11 game slate but Beal stands out to me as one of the best of the bunch. Beal stands out to me for a couple of reasons starting with the way he is playing since his return to the Wizards’ lineup. In those three games which are all games that Spencer Dinwiddie has missed which is going to be the case once again tonight, Beal is averaging 30.3 points, five rebounds, 11.7 assists, two blocks+steals, and 57.17 fantasy points per game. If we look at Beal’s numbers on the season when not sharing the court with Dinwiddie we will see that Beal is averaging 1.20 fantasy points per minute. The second reason why I think Beal is one of the top players on this slate is the match-up against the Rockets. The Rockets have the second-worst team defensive net rating this season and are allowing the most fantasy points per game to guards.

Anfernee Simons ($5,300 DK, $5,500 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
108.0 22.1% 0.79 8th 38.13

I am actually debating if I should fade Simons tonight as his ownership is going to be sky-high after his last game and for good reason. In that game against the Hawks Simons had a career game with 43 points, seven assists, and three rebounds on his way to 55.10 fantasy points. I personally don’t think we see Simons come anywhere near that production tonight. With that being said I will most likely be with the field on Simons tonight as I still think he is a great play at his salary due to Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum being out. With both players out we are going to see Simons play heavy minutes once again and this season with both players off the court Simons has seen an increase in usage of 8.2% to 31.5% and is averaging 0.89 fantasy points per minute.

Forwards

Kyle Kuzma ($7,700 DK, $7,800 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
116.50 20.6% 0.93 29th 48.09

I was high on Kuzma in the Wizards’ last game and he came through for me. Kuzma had 36 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and a steal on his way to 59.8 fantasy points. That was the second straight 50 fantasy point game for Kuzma and the sixth straight game that Kuzma has produced over 30 fantasy points. While it is possible that Kuzma comes back down to earth tonight I don’t think it happens due to the match-up against the Rockets and due to Spencer Dinwiddie and Montrezl Harrell being out. This season the Rockets have the second-worst team defensive net rating and rank in the bottom five in fantasy points allowed per game to forwards. Kuzma has seen an increase of usage of 3.5% which is highest on the Wizards with both Dinwiddie and Harrell off the court this season and is averaging 1.02 fantasy points per minute with both players off the court.

Saddiq Bey ($8,300 DK, $8,000 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
109.00 21.1% 0.85 28th 40.85

Bey is a player that I keep not playing telling myself that it is better to be a day earlier on a player falling off rather than a day late but I am finally going to give and play him as he is truly playing that well. In his past nine games, Bey is averaging 25 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists, a block+steal, and 40.99 fantasy points. Bey is not just putting up huge numbers but the match-up against the Hornets is also one that I love as they don’t play much if any defense. The Hornets have the third-worst team defensive net rating this season and have allowed the second-most fantasy points per game.

Power Foward/Centers

Omer Yurtseven ($6,500 DK, $6,700 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
108.00 20.5% 1.12 30th 54.44

Yurtseven has been excellent in his five starts with Dewayne Dedmon and Bam Adebayo out. In those five starts, Yurtseven is averaging 12.6 points, 15 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and two steals+blocks. Yurtseven has at least 32 fantasy points in each of those games and is averaging 37 fantasy points per game during this stretch. Yurtseven is not just playing at an elite level relative to his salary but the match-up against Portland is also an excellent one. The Trail Blazers have the worst team defensive net rating this season and rank in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game to centers.

Maxi Kleber ($3,800 DK, $5,600 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
103.50 13.6% 0.80 1st 42.60

I am not super high on Kleber on FanDuel tonight where I feel he is overpriced but will be overweight on him on DraftKings where I feel he is underpriced. I feel Kleber is underpriced on DraftKings due to the fact that Kristaps Porzingis is out tonight. In the seven previous games that Porzingis has missed that Kleber has played, Kleber is averaging 9.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.3 blocks+steals, and 24.11 DraftKings points in 25.4 minutes.

Daniel Gafford ($6,400 DK, $6,600 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
116.50 16.3% 1.11 29th 59.52

Gafford is the third Wizards’ player I have in this article. Gafford is in this article for the same reasons as the other Wizards’ players as he is playing really well and the Rockets once again are an elite match-up. I already talked about the Rockets’ defensive net rating in this article so I will avoid going over how bad they are in that category again. Instead, I will focus on their rebounding rate which they rank 23rd in this season, and their fantasy points allowed per game to centers which is second-most this season. When it comes to Gafford’s play we will see that in his last four games all without Montrezl Harrell who is going to be out once again Gafford is averaging 15.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and three steals+blocks. Gafford has at least 33 fantasy points in each of those games.
