Week 5 NFL DFS Wide Receivers (WR) Targets For DraftKings & FanDuel

Welcome to the FC Insights Wide Receiver Targets Article. In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays at the WR position for each DFS week of the 2021-2022 NFL DFS season.

Top Plays

A.J. Brown (DK- $6,500, FD- $6,900)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at LB/CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
JAC 26.5 7 40.88

With the possibility of Julio Jones being held out once again and A.J. practicing yesterday things bode well for A.J to be in line for a lot of volume. Fortunately, the volume would be beneficial especially against a JAC defense having a weaker right side of their secondary and Tyson Campbell having the least number of deflections (2) being the second cornerback on his team’s depth chart. Therefore, with Tre Herndon being the cornerback with the least contributions of the secondary for JAC and first on the depth chart on that side he may end up getting targeted majority of the game. This would also be an ever bigger plus for Julio Jones who plays mainly as the RWR if he ends up somehow playing this week.

Laviska Shenault Jr. (DK- $4,800, FD- $5,800)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
TEN 22 11 51.30

Although TEN has a good number of passes defended in their secondary they still rank the second highest in fantasy points allowed to the WR position which bodes well for the JAC WRs. Laviska also is second in targets at his position on his team so far behind Marvin Jones, but Laviska has a slightly higher target separation of 1.26 (compared to Marvin Jones’ 1.13) which should give him more opportunities to Shenault Jr. to perform well. The team totals are quite close for both these teams as well which could lead to a back-and-forth duel leading to more fantasy points. The fact that Laviska is on the cheaper end of salary across both sites with the number of targets he potentially may get will make him hard to pass up as well.

Courtland Sutton (DK- $5,500, FD- $6,100)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
PIT 19.25 2 44.10

Courtland has had a larger role at his position due to Jerry Jeudy having a significant injury and gets a chance to perform well (with a price decrease on both sites) due to PIT’s best contributor at cornerback so far in Cameron Sutton having the majority of the deflections, but as the right cornerback (in which Tim Patrick mainly plays on). Therefore, this gives a chance to thrive and he already has been receiving the most targets on the team at 28 so far this season which may continue to happen after being second in targets last game (behind Noah Fant). The high route participation rate of 96.2% for Courtland compared to Noah Fant’s 80.3% may also result in him being involved more in this pass offense.

DeVante Parker (DK- $5,400, FD- $5,700)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ TB 19 13 53.85

TB are still in the lead the way for most fantasy points allowed to the WR position and MIA may end up having to play catchup in this matchup due to TB’s loaded offense. Fortunately, DeVante has been steadily having his targets increased over the past weeks and now leads the way in targets for his team at 32. With DeVante being questionable throughout the week this could also lead to his teammate Jaylen Waddle also receiving a lot of work but either way MIA will have to have a heavy passing attack to attempt keeping up in the matchup because TB has one of the stoutest run defenses in the league. DeVante’s price has also increased across sites but still cheap for the potential he has scoring wise.

Jakobi Meyers (DK- $5,600, FD- $5,900)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ HOU 24.25 7 31.88

HOU have been struggling offensively as of late and are coming off a game getting shut out last week and more than likely will look to score even more this week. However, HOU’s most impactful defensive back so far in Vernon Hargreaves III has been the second option in his position while the first before him in Terrance Mitchell has not had as many deflections as him (3). In other words, Jakobi Meyers will be in line for a good amount of volume once again depending if HOU can keep up against this NE defense. Meyers has the most targets on NE by a long shot (41) which more than likely will lead to him contributing heavily in the pass offense once again, especially with HOU’s suffering the fifth most passing yards to opponents in the league.

Kenny Golladay (DK- $5,900, FD- $6,200)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ DAL 22.5 18 45.08

Injuries continue to linger among the NYG WRs but Kenny Golladay has seemed to become the last one standing while receiving the most targets in his position on NYG so far this season at 26. With Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton both being questionable with hamstring injuries there’s a a chance for even more volume to be distributed to Golladay. To NYG’s benefit DAL is currently allowing the fourth most fantasy points to the WR position and more than likely will force NYG to play catch up due to the amount of scoring they’ve been accumulating over the season so far. Therefore, at a mid-tier price Golladay may end up being one of the safer options of this WR bunch.

DeVonta Smith (DK- $5,900, FD- $6,000)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ CAR 17.75 2 29.13

Although the CAR defense is surrendering the fourth least fantasy points to WRs so far this season their defense has still been proven vulnerable last week after surrendering 36 points to their previous opponent. PHI also averages more passing attempts (36.5 per game) compared to their rushing attempts (22.8 per game) which may lead them to trying to go that same route. This gives DeVonta Smith an opportunity to take advantage of CAR’s lack of deflections on passes from their cornerbacks and Donte Jackson is the one contributing most for CAR in that category. Since Smith more than likely will have to face him the majority of the game this would make it the biggest risk. However, since PHI relies more on the pass than the run there opportunity should still be there in a game that PHI is expected to lose.

Top Value(s) for DK/FD

DK- Jaylen Waddle ($4,300)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ TB 19 13 53.85

After Will Fuller went down with an injury this gave Waddle even more of an opportunity to flourish in his position. Although he is slightly behind DeVante Parker in targets (31 to 32), the chances to have a good amount of volume will still be there against a TB defense that will force MIA to rely more on their passing game. Also, the fact that Waddle’s price was decreased with potential to receive volume similar to a WR1 he could potentially be one of the best value plays on the slate at his price.

FD- Deonte Harris ($4,900)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passes Defended at CB Per Game Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game To WRs
@ WAS 23 13 45.40

With WAS currently surrendering the third most fantasy points to the WR position this gives an edge to the NO WRs to take advantage. Deonte has steadily become the most targeted WR on his team at 15 compared to the next most on his team (13) by Marquez Callaway. That being said after being targeted almost ten times last game there wouldn’t be a surprise if that continued since that’s been the most in a game (8) so far by any WR on the NO squad so far this season. However, the biggest risk here is that Deonte more than likely will face the cornerback with the most deflections of the pass on his side in William Jackson III. On the other hand, at his price and the possibility of receiving a lot of targets again he should meet his value.
