The NBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings NBA DFS Picks – May 1, 2021 (5/1/21)
In this article, we will be breaking down some of our favorite plays on the slate at their positions. Please note that players on DraftKings have multi-position eligibility and may not always match their position on FanDuel. Remember to always keep your eye on the news as the day progresses as NBA news changes the slate frequently.
Malachi Flynn – With Kyle Lowry out for the Raptors tonight we should see Flynn start and that has to put him on your radar. In the seven previous games that Flynn has started, he has played extremely well with averages of 14.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.4 steals.
Killian Hayes – The Pistons are giving a ton of their players the night off including Cory Joseph and that makes Hayes a great bargain play especially over on FanDuel where he is under $4,000 in salary. With Joesph out, we should see the rookie play at least 25 minutes, and when Hayes has seen that amount of minutes since his return from injury he has produced. Hayes is averaging 28.72 fantasy points per game in those six games.
Paul George – There is a chance that Kawhi Leonard plays tonight for the Clippers but even if he does I don’t think it will be heavy minutes and I would still be on George. I am of course banking that Leonard is going to be out when rostering George as George has huge numbers with Leonard out of the lineup this season. In the 11 games that George has played that Leonard has missed, George has a usage rate of 37.5% and is averaging 26.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals+blocks. George has at least 43 fantasy points in eight of those games with the three games he didn’t hit that mark being games he didn’t play his normal allotment of minutes for various reasons.
PJ Dozier – Dozier has not done much the past two games for the Nuggets but I still like him tonight for a couple of reasons. The first reason is with Jamal Murray and Will Barton out, Dozier is playing heavy minutes. Dozier has played at least 25 minutes in eight of the Nuggets’ last nine games. Another reason why I like Dozier is while the past two games haven’t gone as planned for him he produced at least 20 fantasy points in the six previous games he played at least 25 minutes.
Anthony Edwards – Edwards has really stepped up his game as the season has gone on for the Timberwolves and is coming off a great month of April. Edward’s last four games in the month of April really stand out to me as he was fantastic in those games with averages of 20.3 points, eight rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.3 steals, and 41.22 fantasy points.
Kevin Porter – I personally don’t see how you don’t have heavy exposure to Porter with John Wall out especially after his last game. In that game against the Bucks, Porter went for a huge 50/5/11 stat line on his way to 70.5 fantasy points. After that game, Porter is now averaging 19.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 7.9 assists, 1.1 steals, and 37.99 fantasy points per game in games that he has played and Wall has missed. Porter is not just playing well but I also like the match-up against a Warriors team that is struggling and over their past 15 games ranks in the bottom ten in terms of fantasy points allowed per game to point guards.
Christian Wood – Wood has had two bad games recently against the Jazz and the Nuggets two of the better defensive teams in the NBA but outside of those games, Wood has been putting up numbers. Wood has at least 40 fantasy points in seven of his past nine games with the two games he didn’t hit that mark being the two games I mentioned previously. In those seven games, Wood is averaging 24.57 points, 13 rebounds, 2.29 blocks+steals, and 48.53 fantasy points. Those are numbers that I expect we see from Wood down the stretch especially tonight against a Warriors team that ranks in the bottom ten in terms of fantasy points allowed per game and defensive efficiency to centers.
Isaiah Stewart – With Jerami Grant and Mason Plumlee out for the Pistons tonight we are going to see Stewart play heavy minutes tonight and that is a good thing as Stewart produces when he is on the court. Stewart is averaging a fantasy point per minute this season and in his last six games that he has played at least 24 minutes, he is averaging 40.85 fantasy points
Khem Birch – The match-up for Birch is not a good one. In fact, it is an awful one as the Raptors take on Rudy Gobert and the Jazz. With that being said I am still having a hard time not rostering Birch tonight at $6,000 or below on both sites as he has played fantastic basketball in the four games since Chris Boucher went down with an injury. In those four games, Birch is averaging 13.8 points, nine rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.5 blocks. Birch has at least 26 fantasy points in each of those games and has produced at least 34 fantasy points in each of the Raptors’ past three games.
Willy Hernangomez – Steven Adams has already been ruled out for tonight’s contest and that makes Hernangomez one of the best value plays on this slate. This season in the six games that Adams missed previously that Hernangomez played he averaged a double-double with 10.3 points and 11 rebounds. Hernangomez also added in an assist and 1.9 steals+blocks to go with the points and boards. Hernangomez has at least 26 fantasy points in five of those contests including at least 32 fantasy points in back-to-back games for the Pelicans. Hernangomez is not only going to get the boost with Adams out but the Wolves are one of the better match-ups in the NBA for centers. This season they rank in the bottom six in fantasy points allowed per game and defensive efficiency to the position.
