The WNBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings WNBA DFS Picks – August 2, 2020 (8/2/20)

Welcome to the WNBA Rundown for FanDuel and DraftKings contests on Sunday, August 2, 2020.

We have a super early tip-off today at 1 PM EST so we are just going to jump right into today’s article.

Guards to Target

Layshia Clarendon ($8,600 DK/$5,600 FD)- Clarendon is having a really good season so far for the Liberty. In her three games, she is averaging 15.66 points, 3.33 rebounds, four assists, and 1.66 steals. Clarendon has produced at least 24 fantasy points in each of those games. Why that start is great it is not the reason why Clarendon makes it into this article. The reason why Clarendon makes it into the article is due to the fact she is one of the few healthy guards for the Liberty. Sabrina Ionescu as you may have heard is going to be out at least a month with a sprained ankle and Kia Nurse is also dealing with an ankle injury and is likely to miss her second straight game.

Jazmine Jones ($6,300 DK/$3,700 FD)- Jones is one of the top value plays on this slate as the rookie is going to be another big benefactor of the Liberty’s injuries in the backcourt. Jones played 20 minutes in the Liberty’s last game with most of those minutes coming after Ionescu’s injury and played well with 20 points, four blocks+steals, and 32.7 fantasy points. While we are not likely to see 32 fantasy points from Jones again today we should see her easily produce over 20 fantasy points which would easily pay off her salary.

Julie Allemand ($6,600 DK/$4,700 FD)- Allemand has played at least 29 minutes in each of the Fevers three games this season and is coming off a game in which she produced 34.3 fantasy points on the back of 11 assists and four steals+blocks. While I am not expecting Allemand to come anywhere near 34 fantasy points today she should easily pay off her salary as the Dream are a bad defensive team. This season the Dream area allowing the third-most points per game.

Forwards to Target

A’ja Wilson($10,800 DK/$7,800 FD)- Wilson should destroy this Wings defense and is easily my top overall player on this slate. This season the Wings rank dead last in rebounds allowed per game at 39.7 and are allowing 86 points per game. Wilson has also traditionally had success against the Wings. In her rookie season, Wilson averaged 23.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 50.3 fantasy points against them in her three meetings and last season in her only meeting against them in just 23 minutes she went for 20 points eight rebounds, and three assists for 32.1 fantasy points.

Teaira McCowan ($8,300 DK/$5,500 FD)- McCowan has had an up and down season for the Fever and is probably overpriced on both sites today but I am having a hard time not rostering as there is a clear path to big minutes for her today in a great match-up. The Fever are going to be without Natalie Achonwa who has been starting for the Fever and McCowan should take her place in the starting lineup and should also absorb most of the 15 minutes that Achonwa had been playing. The only other time this season we saw McCowan play over 25 minutes which she should see today she went for 20/13/2 with two blocks on her way to 43.6 fantasy points. Now, I am not saying that McCowan is going to hit 43 fantasy points today but there is a great chance for her to do so as the Dream does allow the third-most points per game this season and second-most blocks.

Brianna Turner ($7,100 DK/$5,000 FD)- Turner is a bit of a risk as she only played around 20 minutes per game but she is a risk that I am willing to take as she puts up big numbers in her limited time on the court. Turner has at least 27 fantasy points in two of her three games this season and is averaging 1.16 fantasy points per minute. The Liberty are also a team target players against as they struggle on the defensive side of the ball. Last season they allowed the fourth-most rebounds per game and most points per game and this season they are one again allowing the fourth-most rebounds per game while also allowing the fourth-most points per game.
