Welcome to the WNBA Rundown for FanDuel and DraftKings contests on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.
We are going to jump right into today’s three-game slate.
Guards to Target
Betnijah Laney ($6,500 DK/$5,600 FD)- Love the salary on Laney tonight as she looked great in the Dream season opener. In that game, Laney played 34 minutes while having a usage rate of 34.4%. Laney went for 19 points, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals on her way to 28 fantasy points. If Laney could have cut down on her turnovers as she had six of them her numbers would have been even better. Now, I know that was only one game for Laney but she did finish off last season strong with two of her past three games over 20 fantasy points and we do know that she is going to play a ton of minutes once again tonight as the Dream roster have been decimated by injury and illness.
Sabrina Ionescu ($8,100 DK/$6,100 FD)- Ionescu’s debut was not one that blew anyone away but she showed her potential and all-around game with a stat line of 12/6/4 on her way to 25.5 fantasy points. I am expecting Ionescu to build on that debut and blow it away tonight as she takes on a Dallas Wings team that looked awful in their opener. In that game against the Dream, the Wings allowed 105 points.
Jackie Young ($5,800 DK/$4,700 FD)- If you need a cheap guard tonight Young is not the worst of options. Young was not great in the Aces season opener with only 13 fantasy points but that doesn’t really bother me when it comes to her tonight. The reason why her first game doesn’t bother me is due to the number of minutes Young played. With the Aces dealing with some injuries in the backcourt Young played 28 minutes against the Sky and is likely to play that many minutes again in this one. The match-up for Young is also one of the best in the WNBA. The Dream allowed 95 points in their opener after allowing the fourth-most points per game a year ago. The Dream also struggled against guards as they allowed 43.4, 10.6 assists, and 22 rebounds to the position a year ago and were killed by them in game one allowing 61 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists to the position.
Forwards to Target
Britteny Griner ($10,500 DK/$7,500 FD)- Griner struggled in the Mercury’s blowout loss against the Sparks but I like her to bounce back tonight against the Fever. The Fever were an average rebounding team a season ago and allowed the third-most points per game and they looked even worst than last season in both categories to start the season. In their opener against the Mystics, the Fever allowed 101 points and 41 rebounds. The Mystics starting center Myisha Hines-Allen had 27 points and 10 rebounds on her way to 45.5 fantasy points. Griner is twice the player Hines-Allen is and I would honestly be shocked if she didn’t produce 50 plus fantasy points tonight.
Amanda Zahui B ($9,100 DK/$6,000 FD)- I was expecting a lot more from Zahui B in the Liberty’s opener as she is primed for a big season with all of the losses to that roster but it just didn’t happen. Not that Zahui B was not bad in the opener she just didn’t have the big game I was expecting her to have. With that being said I really like the spot for Zahui B tonight as she should play closer to 30 minutes tonight and does average well over a fantasy point per minute when she is on the court. The Wings are also a much better match-up for Zahui B than the Storm are.
