PLAYS IN THE $8,000-$8,500 RANGE FOR FIGHT NIGHT
This week presents some heavy favorites at high salaries. In order to balance out lineups with big salaries it is important to have a solid options in the middle tier to pair with them. Here are three plays in the mid-range for this weeks DFS contests.
TREVIN GILES (DK $8,400) – Trevin Giles has an undefeated professional record with 10 of his 11 wins by KO or submission. Both of his UFC fights were early finishes. He faces a worth opponent in Zak Cummings who has a 22-6 record. He will enter the evening as the favorite. In his two UFC fights to date he has scored 111.8 FPPF. He will need to be careful to avoid submission as Cummings has 11 submissions accounting for half of his victories, however, Giles has half of his wins by submission as well. Giles looks to have the edge on his feet and can hold his own on the mat.
Caveman’s advice: I like Giles quite a bit here and feel he is priced really well. His two UFC fights are a small sample size, but he has demonstrated the ability to score in DFS and should get plenty of play at a bargain price. I would use him in 40-50% of multi-entry contests and would consider him a decent cash game play.
KEVIN LEE (DK $8,000) – Both fighters in this matchup have a tendency to go deep into five round fights. In Lee’s last two fights, he went into the fifth round winning by TKO against Edson Barboza and losing by decision to Al Iaquinta. His opponent Rafael dos Anjos has gone the distance in his last three fights losing two of three by decision. I expect this Main Event fight to go deep and like Lee’s opportunity to accumulate points over five rounds. I expect his wrestling to cause problems for dos Anjos and give Lee a reasonable chance to get in an early conclusion by submission. Lee has eight submissions in his 17 professional victories.
Caveman’s advice: I make Lee a good cash game play for both his below average salary and his ability to score through five rounds win or lose. Dos Anjos is the slightest of favorites but I think he is vulnerable in this one. Lee can win by submission or decision here. In muli-entry contests, I would give Lee 30-40% exposure.
MEGAN ANDERSON (DK $8,500) – I’m a bit surprised Megan isn’t a bigger favorite against Felicia Spencer. Although Spencer is undefeated she has only 6 professional fights to date and will make her debut in the octagon. Megan has much more experience including high level competition including a victory over Cat Zingano and a decision loss to Holly Holm. There is some concern here that she lacks scoring potential but her six inch height advantage should allow her to keep her opponent at distance while scoring significant strikes. Five of her nine victories are by KO/TKO and she has the ability to get another one here against a green opponent.
Caveman’s advice: Spencer gives up too much length here. I like Anderson to have her way here against an inexperienced opponent. The price is right as well. Coming in at $8,500 in salary and as a two to one betting favorite, I think she is a great cash play and has potential in multi-entry contests. I would give her 30-40% exposure in these contests.
That’s all for this week. Good luck with your lineups!
