PREPPING FOR DAYTONA: TOP PLAYS AT FOUR PRICE RANGES FOR THE DAYTONA 500 (2019)
It is NASCAR season again and our FC Insights will kick off with the Daytona 500 on Sunday. This is a new column for us, so we hope you enjoy it. Feedback is always encouraged and welcomed!
Let’s take a look at a four drivers in different price ranges and focus on some of the best values DraftKings has to offer.
KYLE BUSCH (DK $9,600) – Kyle Busch struggled at Daytona last year, but seems to have remedied that on Friday posting the fastest average lap numbers of the day. He’ll be starting from 31st position on Sunday, due in part to a collision with Jimmie Johnson during qualifying, but it should give him the opportunity for place differential scoring. If he can build off his momentum from Friday, he should put up good numbers at Daytona. His $9,600 salary gives Busch solid value for a driver who averaged 60.92 FPPR in 2018.
(Kyle Busch drives the #18 Toyota. He starts in 31st position on Sunday.)
KEVIN HARVICK (DK $10,200) – Harvick carries a big salary but has the chops to carry value even when priced over $10K. He carries the highest fantasy average of any of Sunday’s drivers at 66.26 FPPR. He comes in at a lower salary than Joey Logano and Brad Keselowski but had a faster qualifying time than either. He managed to secure the 3rd starting position for the #4 car and should be in the running to repeat his 2007 win at Daytona. Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch lead the field with 29 top ten finishes apiece.
(Kevin Harvick drive the #4 Ford. He starts in the 3rd position on Sunday.)
KYLE LARSON (DK $7,800) – Kyle Larson has big upside at a moderate salary. In 2018 he had a dozen finishes in the top 5. He scored an average of 43.26 fantasy points per race. Compare him to similarly salaried drivers like Alex Bowman (DK $8,000) and Austin Dillon (DK $7,600) who averaged 26.56 FPPR and 29.92 FPPR respectively. The sky is the limit on Larson’s ceiling this Sunday.
(Kyle Larson drives the #42 Chevrolet. He starts in the 26th position on Sunday.)
BRENDAN GAUGHAN (DK $6,000) – At an even six grand in salary, Brendan Gaughan is a bargain here. His average FPPR is 34.00 placing him 12th among Sunday’s drivers, yet his salary is 28th on that same list. Gaughan is a pure value play. Value at this price point opens up lineups to carry heavier salaries.
(Brendan Gaughan drives the #62 Chevrolet. He starts in the 30th position on Sunday.)
That’s all for this week. Good luck with your lineups!
