The Starting 5 – FanDuel & DraftKings NHL DFS Expert Lineup Picks for Thursday, April 5, 2018

Winning your NHL DFS contests on FanDuel & DraftKings starts with your friends at Fantasy Cruncher. We have some of the brightest DFS hockey minds in the business, and we’re here to help share top lineup picks for the day’s slate. Featuring a recommendation for each roster position.

Editor’s Note: The Starting Five will be offered for free, to everyone each day of the NHL Regular Season this year for the Main Slate of action.

  • G Connor Hellebuyck, WPG

Hellebuyck and the Jets sit as -230 favourites tonight, playing on home ice against a Calgary Flames team that is ready for the off-season.  Hellebuyck is an elite netminder, and I like his chances of picking up a win, while holding the opposition to a low total tonight.  He’s a rock solid cash game option for Thursday night’s slate.

  • D Sami Niku, WPG

Niku made his NHL debut on Tuesday night, and managed to find his way onto the scoresheet while blocking 3 shots and sending two pucks on net in 15 minutes of action.  He’s seeing PP time, and is a great punt with upside on the back-end for a $3k price-tag.  He’s a great punt with upside on the back-end tonight in a game he should see plenty of action in.

  • C Connor McDavid, EDM

McDavid has been quiet in back to back games for the Oilers, but I like the spot he’s in tonight as the Oilers host Vegas in what should be a high scoring game.  He’s one of, if not the best player in the game – and I think he has a multi-point effort tonight on home ice.  While the vast majority of the Oilers have been disappointing this year, McDavid has continued to excel, putting up 41 goals and 103 points on the year.

  • W Claude Giroux, PHI

Giroux and the Flyers are in a big game tonight, playing for their playoff lives at home against the Canes tonight.  I like his chances of having a big night, and he gives you a piece of their top line and PP unit in a game where I think they light the lamp multiple times.

  • W Timo Meier, SJ

Meier stays in the starting 5 tonight as the Sharks host Colorado.  I liked him on the third line for SJ, so I definitely like him on the top unit.  He has points in three straight games, and has been shooting the puck at a nice clip as well, making him a great punt with upside for tonight’s slate of games.
