DraftKings PGA DFS Cash Game Lineup Targets & Picks – The Barclays

DraftKings PGA DFS Cash Game Lineup Targets & Picks – The Barclays

It’s playoff time on tour, as the top 125 finishers in the FedEx Cup Standings advance to play a tough Bethpage Black Course on Long Island. Only the top 100 golfers in the FedEx Cup Standings will advance to next week. This is the course where there is a warning, saying only highly skilled golfers should play the black tees. The course measures nearly 7500 yards and is a Par 71.

My initial thoughts on DraftKings pricing is that is is very soft, with some great bargains in the 5k and 6k range. This probably means we will see lots of stars and scrubs lineups. I think you can do that, or try a balanced approach as well. Lots of options and more than half the field will make the cut. Here are my preferred cash game plays this week.

Top Tier

Dustin Johnson (11,900)

I’m sure we all remember what happened the last time he played an event: He badly missed the cut at the PGA Championship, killing a lot of lineups (mine included). However, that was his only missed cut all year, and is something I can overlook when considering him for games this week. He’s 16 of 17 in making cuts with 2 wins and 11 top 10 finishes. Add in that he’s 500 cheaper than Jason Day and he is a great play.

If you need more convincing: He’s #1 in Driving Distance, #2 in Total Strokes Gained and Birdie Average, and 3rd in Total Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green. DJ also finished 3rd the last time the Barclays was played here back in 2012. Don’t let one bad week in a major affect your thinking; DJ is a great start in your cash games if you’re comfortable playing some of the cheaper values.

Mid Tier

Adam Scott (9,500)

A 2-time winner on tour who has not missed a cut this year in 15 starts, and he’s under 10k? If you aren’t starting your lineups with DJ, Scott makes a lot of sense. Scott is 7th in the world and 3rd in FedEx Cup Points, so for him to be under 10k makes him a great play.

Statistically, he’s #1 in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green, 3rd in Total Strokes Gained, 14th in Driving Distance, and 21st in Greens in Regulation. He played here in 2009 and 2012, making the cut both times. I am not passing up on Scott at this price this week, as he should do just fine and gives you some very nice win upside.

Matt Kuchar (9,200)

Another mention of Kuchar in this article, but when you’re 20/22 in making cuts, you’re going to be a cash game play. Coming off a great Sunday in Rio where Kuchar charged for a bronze medal, he should be rested and ready to play. He was 38th 4 years ago here and while not a long hitter, it’s hard to argue his consistency.

Kuchar is top 50 in every single Strokes Gained Category, including 8th in Total Strokes Gained and 15th in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green. I also like that he’s 15th in Birdie Average and 42nd in Greens in Regulation. I think he’s a great cash game play as he always seems to make the cut, and with 9 top 10s, gives you some nice upside as well.

Lower Tier

Russell Knox (7,300)

Knox is coming off his first win in the U.S. at the Travelers (overshadowed a bit by the Jim Furyk 58 final round). It was his second win of the year worldwide, and moved him to 4th in the FedEx Cup Standings. So, why is he so cheap? I have no idea, but it makes him a near must play in cash games.

Knox has made 7 cuts in a row, and is 20 for 25 this year with 6 top 10s. While putting up decent Strokes Gained numbers (except for putting), he’s great at Greens in Regulation (2nd) and Driving Accuracy (11th). All in all, I think Knox makes for the best value of the week and will be in all of my cash game lineups.

Francesco Molinari (6,000)

If you’re going Stars and Scrubs, you are going to have to find some value plays. There are quite a few of them out there, but Molinari looks like a good cash game option. He’s 16/19 in making cuts this year, with 6 straight cuts (includes British and PGA) and did finish 2nd at the French Open on the Euro Tour. He did play the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, getting a top 30 finish.

His best stat is that he’s 22nd in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green and 40th in Total Strokes Gained. Molinari comes into the week 105th in FedEx Cup Points, so he needs to make a cut and have a decent showing to advance. Someone with his pedigree should not be this cheap, making Molinari a pretty good option at 6k for your cash games.

Roberto Castro (5,700)

Of course, if you need more savings, let’s go with the trendy cash game pick from last week (I had to write him in the GPP article after overlooking him for the cash game article). Castro finished 20th last week and a look at his game log shows no missed cuts in the past 10 events with 4 top 25 finishes.

Castro is 17th in Greens in Regulation and 29th in Strokes Gained Tee-to-Green. He is 53rd in the FedEx Cup Standings, so he’s looking for a solid performance to help him get to Atlanta for the Tour Championship. He made a lot of fantasy players happy with his performance last week at 6k. 300 cheaper now, he may be the most popular bargain play this week.
