This past weekend we saw Jason Day hold off Kevin Chappell to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational. This week the tour is headed to Rio Grande to contend in the Puerto Rico Open and we’re excited for the DraftKings PGA contests that come along with it.
The tournament will be held at Coco Beach and Country Club where it is 7,506 yards, par 72. Players do not need to have great driving distance at this course to be successful. Target players who are accurate off the tee and that are ranked high in Green in Regulation. Make sure to look at these following stats when picking players this week: good drive percentage, birdies or better percentage and scrambling.
Join a contest over at DraftKings today. They have a PGA $200K Fairway contest that has an entry fee of $27 and the winner takes home $20,000. There is also a $3 entry tournament called the PGA $150K Birdie where first place gets $12,000. There are other smaller contest to choose from as DraftKings has a contest for every type of player. Below are our top GPP plays this week for the Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach.
Stud Play of the Week
Williams McGirt has the third-best odds of winning the Puerto Rico Open at +2200 according to Vegas. He is having a great year so far on tour having made eight of ten cuts already and is averaging 74.3 DraftKings fantasy points per game. McGirt already has 3 top ten finishes this season and his latest one came at the Honda Classic where he finished T8th. McGirt has all the skills to win this week and ranks 20th in Strokes Gained Tee to Green, 23rd in Birdie or Better, 57th in Strokes Gained Putt, and 64th in Green in Regulation off fairway. McGirt is the third highest salaried player on DraftKings with a price of $10,500. I will be building my lineup around McGirt this week as he is in one of the best positions to win it all this week.
Two Value Plays for GPP’s
Jhonattan Vegas is a nice tournament play this week in daily fantasy. His price is very affordable at just $7,400 on DraftKings and is averaging 62.1 fantasy points per game. Vegas has made six of nine cuts this season and finished T46 this past week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Vegas’ skills should play well here at Coco Beach. He is ranked 14th in Green in Regulation, 42nd in Par 5 Scoring and 53rd in Strokes Gained Putting. Vegas finished one under here back in 2014 and Las Vegas has his odds of winning it all this year at +8000. Vegas is definitely a nice sneaky GPP this week.
Shawn Stefani is the ultimate GPP tournament play in DFS this week. He is definitely more of a riskier option after making the cut in just four of eleven tournaments this season. The positives of Stefani is his price and his past history at this course. He will free up your lineup with a DraftKings salary of just $6,800 so you can afford to put in more expensive studs on your roster. The only time he has played this course he finished in 39th place and he has improved his golf game since then. Stefani is a long driver who can shoot straight and can hit greens. He needs work on his putting and this is the risky part of his game that could sink your lineup. He ranks 78th in Par 5 Scoring. He finished T56 in his last tournament at the Valspar Championship.
Good luck in your GPP tournaments on DraftKings this weekend and stay tuned for our cash game picks!
