We just added a new setting that allows you to randomize projections in between lineup generation. There are 2 main benefits for using this setting. An easy way to think about how this setting works: if randomness is set to 3% the lineups generated will be approximately within 3% of optimal with the given constraints.

1. Increased randomness helps with getting increased variance between lineups.
2. The speed of the calculation increases as the randomness setting is turned up. This is especially helpful with DK NBA and decreasing run time when generating 50+ lineups.

Can you elaborate on this a little? So I usually use 3-4 unique players per lineup to get the "randomness". How is this different than that? If a lineup must have 3-4 unique players compared to the previous lineup, doesn't this provide the randomness?

Unique players isn't "random", it tells the algorithm to look for lineups that are X players different from other lineups, it is a deterministic result. Randomness perturbs the projections x% after each lineup being calculated. This gives you non-deterministic results, aka slightly off-optimal results, for those that want it.

Does this mean if I click "generate" twice without changing anything, I would get different results with the randomness factor?

I believe so.

Is the % slider (randomness setting) related to how much the projections are changed? IOW, 50% is even less-optimal than, say, 15%?

It will be the "optimal" solution after the randomness is applied. So I'm not quite sure what you're asking. The percent just puts a cap on how much the projections can change.

If I select 10% randomness, will it project Porter within a 20% band around 31.67 (10% up, 10% down), a 10% band around 31.67 (5% up, 5% down), or something entirely different?

Your first assumption is correct. +/- within 10% (or whatever % you select)

This is what I was asking as well. I figured this was the case (first assumption above), but the slider allows for any % so I wanted to make sure ... I can't imagine why anyone would use anything above ~10%, but it's a good feature.
