In this article, we cover four core plays for FanDuel & DraftKings daily fantasy baseball contests. These players are the ones we are going to have strong GPP exposure to for the main slate.
Let’s jump right into today’s article.
As a reminder, we focus primarily on lower-owned candidates for GPP tournament leverage. If you are looking for cash game plays, check out all the other great articles we post on FantasyCruncher daily, like our Cheat Sheets, Daily Dinger & much more.
Top Pitcher
George Kirby
Kirby might garner a little bit of ownership on this slate but he doesn’t figure to be above ten percent and I am going to take advantage of that fact as Kirby has been really solid for the Mariners. Kirby has a quality start in three of his past four starts. In those four starts, Kirby has an ERA of 2.74, a WHIP of 1.04, and a K rate of 22.3%. Kirby has not only been solid as of late but he is also in a fantastic match-up against Oakland. Oakland ranks in the bottom two in team ISO, team OPS, team wOBA, and team wRC+ against right-handed pitching this season while having the eighth-highest team K rate at 23.6%. Kirby also already has had a good start against the A’s this season producing 16.45 fantasy points against them when he faced them on May 24th.
Stud Hitter
Juan Soto
Soto is a risky play tonight not due to his skill level but he is a risky play due to his match-up and potential weather issues. Starting with the weather the Washington-Baltimore game has a better than 50% chance to get rained out tonight as thunderstorms are expected to be in the area tonight. When it comes to match-up Tyler Wells might not seem like a tough match-up but that is what he is. Wells has allowed left-handed hitters to slash just .196/.229/.348 with a .252 wOBA this season. With all that said if this game plays my gut is telling me that Soto has a huge night at the plate.
Value Hitter
Albert Pujols
Pujols is expected to be in the Cardinals lineup tonight against the left-handed Eric Lauer and I like him at the site minimum salary due to Lauer’s recent struggles. Lauer has allowed 12 runs on 13 hits with six home runs and five walks in 11.1 innings over his past two starts. In those starts, hitters are slashing .295/.360/.727 with a .449 wOBA. Pujols for all his struggles this season as father time has caught up with him has still been really darn good against lefties with an OPS of .951, an ISO of .237, and a wOBA of .399.
Top Stack
New York Yankees
The Yankees have a current projected run total under four tonight and that is going to keep their ownership levels way down. I for one will be taking advantage of the low ownership as I don’t think the Yankees should have such a low run total for a couple of reasons. The first reason is due to simply how good their lineup is. The Yankees rank first in team ISO, team wOBA, team OPS, and team wRC+ against right-handed pitching. The second reason is their match-up against Shane Baz. Baz is a great young pitcher who has excellent career numbers but he did struggle in one of his two starts this season. In that start against the Twins, Baz allowed five runs in just 2.1 innings of action.
