The MLB DFS Dinger of the Day – May 13, 2022 (5/13/22)

MLB DFS Picks: Daily Home Run Picks for FanDuel & DraftKings on May 13, 2022.

Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.

Welcome back MLB DFS grinders to the 2022 season! As always, FantasyCruncher will have several daily articles from pitching to stacking, to home run picks, to general cheat sheets to help you build your daily lineups. And the best news, it is all free! This year for 2022, we are changing up the scoring for the home run calls to be weighted based on the player’s salary. If one of our writers chooses a player with a salary over $5,000 it will be worth 0.5 points. Between $4-$4.9k is 1 point, $3-$3.9k is 2 points, and anyone $2.9k or below is worth 3 points. In terms of salary, we are going off of DraftKings salary for this article. Again, the scoring system is just a fun and friendly competition between our MLB content writers.

Today’s Picks

James: CJ Cron ($5,800) – It’s a high-priced guy but I am trying to break out of my home run slump here. Greinke toes the hill for the Royals and while the numbers are good on paper, he is giving up a ton of hits and a ton of flyballs and line drives. Grienke’s groundball rate is down almost 10% off of his career average and while he is managing to get outs, his expected ERA and BA/SLG against him grade out pretty poorly. I think it is just a matter of time before Greinke gets hit around and the Denver air with his rate of balls in the air right now isn’t a good combination. Greinke is also getting hit way harder by righties right now, so targeting the righty power here makes sense.

Zach: J.D. Davis ($3,000) – Peter Alonso is an excellent option to go deep tonight for the Mets but I am going to leave him for Jared to choose if he wants as I prefer to go hunting with some of the cheaper guys on the Mets as they are also excellent options. I feel this way due to the fact that Marco Gonzales has allowed at least two home runs in each of his past two starts and for the season has allowed eight home runs which is the third-highest mark in the majors. Davis is the cheap guy I am going with on the Mets as he has hits in four of his past five games. If Davis is not in the lineup for some reason as he doesn’t always play I will go with Mark Canha.

Jared: Peter Alonso ($5,200) – I don’t regret my recommendation of Alonso last night at all against Joan Adon. Frankly, I love the way he’s swinging the bat and is absolutely in line for a big weekend series with the Mariners. That starts tonight against the long ball king himself in Marco Gonzales. He has already coughed up 8 big flies in 2022, with a HR/9 of nearly 3.0 thus far (2.84 to be exact). Last season, 23 of his 29 HRs allowed came to RHBs, who had a .344 wOBA and .503 SLG against him in the split. I’m sticking with Alonso again one day later, thanks in large part to his career .306 ISO against LHP – especially with how susceptible Gonzales has been to the home run in his career.

Overall Standings

James 11.5 (10 total home runs)
Zach 10.5 (6 total home runs)
Jared 16 (9 total home runs)
