The MLB DFS Dinger of the Day – May 12, 2022 (5/12/22)

MLB DFS Picks: Daily Home Run Picks for FanDuel & DraftKings on May 12, 2022.

Every day this season, our team shares who we believe has the best chance to leave the yard. From one-off plays to core parts of daily stacks, we hope this fun article will help you build winning lineups along the way.

Welcome back MLB DFS grinders to the 2022 season! As always, FantasyCruncher will have several daily articles from pitching to stacking, to home run picks, to general cheat sheets to help you build your daily lineups. And the best news, it is all free! This year for 2022, we are changing up the scoring for the home run calls to be weighted based on the player’s salary. If one of our writers chooses a player with a salary over $5,000 it will be worth 0.5 points. Between $4-$4.9k is 1 point, $3-$3.9k is 2 points, and anyone $2.9k or below is worth 3 points. In terms of salary, we are going off of DraftKings salary for this article. Again, the scoring system is just a fun and friendly competition between our MLB content writers.

Today’s Picks

James: Brandon Nimmo ($4,800) – Small slates today but I am focusing on the early one with the Mets left-handed power against Joan Adon. Adon is a young arm with an ERA pushing 7.00 and a WHIP of 1.66. Not only that, Adon has a very small arsenal and a heavy lean on his fastball. Adon is allowing a Barrel% of near 17% and throws his 4-seamer around 66% of the time. Nimmo is batting near .300 on fastballs on the year and is getting the ball in the air with the highest flyball rate of his career. Lefties are slugging .140 points higher than righties against Adon and with barrels to had, I like how Nimmo lines up on this slate.

Zach: Juan Yepez ($3,500) – There are not a lot of options to choose from today with only four games on the main slate. With that said even if this was a normal size slate, I would still probably choose Yepez. Yepez has hits in each of his seven games in his career with two home runs. Yepez has not only started his career on fire but I also love the match-up for him against what looks to be a bullpen game for the Orioles whose bullpen is not very good.

Jared: Peter Alonso ($5,100) – When a guy as talented as Alonso is hitting as well as he is right now, you have to jump on the gravy train. In his last week of action (22 PA), he is rocking a .638 wOBA, 320 wRC+, 69% hard hit rate, 31% barrel rate and an elite 95.6 mph exit velocity average. That barrel rate, my friends, is what has to get you excited. He’s powered-up with 3 HR in his last 5 games, and 23 year old Joan Adon has really struggled at the MLB level thus far in 2022. In fact, RHBs have a .354 wOBA against him with 15 ER coughed up, to go along with a 5.15 xFIP in the split. It shouldn’t be a long outing for Adon against a talented Mets offense, so expect plenty of bullpen at bats for the New York lineup, too. I’ll be surprised if we don’t see 2-3 HRs for the Mets in the final boxscore this afternoon, and my hope is that Alonso finds his name included on that list when all is said and done. If Alonso sits for any reason, my pivot is fellow Met, Dominic Smith.

Overall Standings

James 11.5 (10 total home runs)
Zach 10.5 (6 total home runs)
Jared 16 (9 total home runs)
