Core Plays

Noah Gragson – $10,800 – Starting 4th

There were a few shakey weeks for Noah Gragson at the beginning of April, but Gragson has re-grabbed his form with a win at Talladega and a fourth-place finish last week at Dover. This week we are at Darlington, a 1.36-mile oval that historically Gragson has dominated. In five career starts here, Gragson has never finished outside the top-ten and won the race in September of last year. He also finished fourth in the May race in which he arguably could have very easily won as well. Gragson has led 40-laps in each of his last two races here and grades out as the best driver at this track over the last two years of data. Gragson has never scored below 34 fantasy points at this track and averages 50 fantasy points over his five races. Qualifying for this race was canceled due to rain, so the starting grid here is set by the rule book. This also now means Chase Elliot will miss this race, therefore Gragson slides into my top spot. If you want to tackle differential from this spot, Tyler Reddick starting 34th and John Hunter Nemechek 23rd figure to also be chalky options this week.

Bayley Currey – $4,600 – Starting 30th

This price just is simply too low and that is really all I have to say about it. Currey hasn’t been great by any stretch, but he does have 38 or more fantasy points in two of his last three races. Currey has an average finish of 26th on the year and does have a handful of single-digit fantasy outings. These are just the things that happen with some drivers at this level of racing. That being said, Bayley Currey’s equipment isn’t bad by any means, in fact, I would say I rank it above a lot of the guys below the $6,000 threshold. So we have to factor in the poor finishes for Currey, but we also have to factor in how low this price is and how it really lets us roster 2-3 dominators from this race. Currey started 39th in this race last year and finished 25th. He also finished 24th in 2020 and 26th in 2018. While this is not going to net us a ton of points, if Currey can just grab us a little bit of differential and finish the race, I believe that is going to be the winning strategy as it will allow you to roster three of the top-dollar guys.
