DraftKings & FanDuel NASCAR DFS – GEICO 500 – April 24, 2022
Ryan Blaney – DK: $10,500 | FD: $14,000 – Starting 22nd
When it comes to plate racing and superspeedways, Ryan Blaney is always a name to keep an eye on. Since October of 2019, Blaney has seven top-ten finishes in 11 races, including a win here at Talladega in October of 2019 and June of 2022. Blaney also netted a win at Daytona in August of 2021 and a fourth-place finish at Daytona this year. It is easy to highlight Blaney’s success on large tracks, but more so is Blaney’s overall success this season as he has seven top-ten finishes in 11 races. While Blaney has failed to grab a win this season, he has four straight races of seventh-place finishes or higher. He has also had at least two of the fastest laps in every race this season and has had 10 or more of the fastest laps in five of his last six races. Blaney is a threat for dominator points here and finishing position so paying up for him this week doesn’t bother me. Especially when we factor in the massive inconsistency of the “big” named drivers in the Cup Series. Hamlin, Truex, Harvick, Keselowski, etc are becoming fringe names after being guys we used to be able to rely on week in and week out. Blaney in a fast car at a fast track starting 22nd gives us a ton of room to climb with differential and I have a feeling we still see Blaney near the front.
Chris Buescher – DK: $6,800 | FD: $7,000 – Starting 30th
I expect this play to likely become the value chalk of the week due to Buescher’s past stats at superspeedways. Buescher has finished sixth in three of his last four races at Talladega, netting an average of 55 fantasy points over those three races. There is always going to be risk and inconsistency with drivers at this tier, but Buescher has only two finishes outside the top 21 in his last eleven races between Talladega and Daytona. Since 2015 he has turned in six top-9 finishes. In general, Buescher has three top-ten finishes on the year and hasn’t finished worse than 21st in eight races. With a 30th starting spot here we actually don’t need Buescher to do a ton except for finish in the 15-20 range for this salary likely to pay itself off.
