2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions – DraftKings PGA DFS Daily Cheat Sheet & Overview

DraftKings PGA DFS GPP Cheat Sheet & Overview for the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions.  Featuring top plays, high ceiling candidates, contrarian, and value picks to target for this week’s DraftKings and FanDuel PGA DFS main slate.

The calendar flipped, and we are about to dive into a full season of PGA action, and subsequently coverage here on Fantasy Cruncher for the 2022 PGA season!  We will be providing a weekly piece highlighting my favorite plays on the board for the upcoming tournament, capping each week off with the cheat sheet itself, which will be a little bit more comprehensive than the write-ups on my favorite options for the week.

For this weeks event, 39 winners from last season will be teeing it up at The Plantation Course at Kapalua, with contests starting Thursday morning at 5am EST.  For those that are new to DFS PGA, this week’s event is a no cut event with a limited field (39 golfers), including many of the best players on tour as you had to win an event last year to be eligible to tee it up this week.  It should be a fun week of action before next week’s first full field event of 2022.

As for the course itself, the Plantation Course is quite long, checking in at over 7500 yards.  It is a Par 73, however – so the opportunities to score will be plentiful.  If you are looking for key metrics to evaluate, for me this week my favorite is going to be SG: OTT (in addition to SG: Total) – as well as some course history and recent form.

From a roster construction standpoint, with no cuts in play – you can afford to go a little more studs and scrubs than in an event where getting 6/6 to make the cut is paramount.  With that said, however – you will want to make sure that anyone you choose has the ability to score – as you will likely need to find yourself with a team of golfers that are all in the hunt for top 10 finishes this weekend (you may be able to get away with one guy a little lower down if he plays some barbelled golf with lots of birdies and bogies).  All in all, it is nice to have PGA back, and I’ll highlight a few of my favorite options in a little more detail before providing my cheat sheet for the week!

Best of the Best (factoring in salary)

  • Daniel Berger, $8,400

If you’ve followed my PGA articles for the last couple of seasons, you’ll know I’m a fan of Berger’s game as I have touted him very regularly.  He’s an elite ball striker and has the ability to both rack up birdies, and compete in high quality field events.  The price point on him this week is far too cheap, and even though he will be popular, I think this is a case of good chalk, and personally – I’ll be eating it this week.  He comes into this one playing well – and while he has yet to really be in the mix at this tournament in his three previous tries at it – he has always been solid.  For $8,400 – he’s a great option that fits into most builds quite nice.

  • Talor Gooch, $7,600

Gooch comes into this one playing really well with three top 10 and 5 top 12 finishes in his last six events.  He punched his ticket to this tournament in his last outing, which was at The RSM Classic in mid-November.  I really liked what I saw from his game last fall – and while it is always a little bit of a mystery in terms of how players will play after a competitive layoff, I really like how things are shaping up for him this season.  He’s a great value option to mix into builds this week to compliment some of the higher priced options in the field.

  • Xander Schauffele, $9,500

I don’t think I need to spend much time hyping up Xander, who has had three top 5 finishes here and is one of the best players on tour.  He’s an excellent core piece this week to mix into builds for a healthy weight of line-ups, and I think he has a really great shot at being among the final group(s) on Sunday for the fourth round of the tournament.  He’s an elite all around player and his game is a great fit at Kapalua.

Our cheat sheets highlight the core plays (including some contrarian candidates) that we like the most on the slate and, as a result, would recommend a higher level of exposure to on the whole. It is not an exhaustive list, and if you are a multi-entry GPP player, you may decide to ultimately have a larger player pool to work from. Our hope is that this gives you a tight group of players to heavy-up your exposure to.

Best of luck in your contests this week and for the course of the 2022 PGA Season!!
