The NBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings NBA DFS Picks – November 22, 2021 (11/22/21)

Please note that players on DraftKings and FanDuel have multi-position eligibility and may not always match their position between each other. In this article, we will be breaking down some of our favorite plays on the slate at their positions. Remember to always keep your eye on the news as the day progresses, as NBA news changes the slate frequently.

We have a nice ten-game slate on tap for tonight and before jumping into some of my favorite players on this slate I cannot stress enough how important it is to watch the injury news tonight. There are a lot of players that are questionable tonight including guys like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kevin Porter Jr. to name a few. If one of these players were to be ruled out the whole slate could change as some value plays would theoretically open up.

Point Guard

Tyrese Maxey ($7,400 DK, $8,100 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
107.25 20.8% 0.92 26th 49.21

Maxey is starting to make the 76ers fans forget all of the drama with Ben Simmons as he is putting up huge numbers with Joel Embiid out. In those eight games, Maxey is averaging 22.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.6 steals+blocks. Maxey has at least 29.9 fantasy points in all but one of those games and is averaging 38.76 fantasy points per game during this stretch. Tonight we shouldn’t see Maxey slow down as the 76ers take on a Kings team that has the fifth-worst team defensive net rating and is allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to point guards this season.

R.J. Hampton ($4,200 DK, $5,300 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
101.75 20.6% 0.84 14th 49.34

If Cole Anthony plays tonight I am not going to be on Hampton. If Anthony is out for the second-straight game then I don’t know how you don’t roster Hampton at his salary after what he did with Anthony out last game. In that game which came against the same Bucks team that the Magic face tonight, Hampton played 28 minutes and went for 19/5/9 with a steal on his way to 39.5 fantasy points. While you might say well that was just a one-off game and Hampton cannot possibly put up those kinds of numbers again tonight. While you are probably right in that statement the fact that the Bucks have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points per game to point guards this season gives me hope. Even if Hampton doesn’t hit 39 fantasy points and only gets you 25 fantasy points he would still easily pay off his salary.

Shooting Guard

D’Angelo Russell ($7,600 DK, $7,400 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
107.75 27.9% 1.08 29th 40.37

Russell struggled some to start the season but has been on a roll as of late. Russell has produced at least 35 fantasy points in seven of his past eight games. In those eight games, Russell is averaging 21.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 1.6 steals+blocks. With the Pelicans who have the second-worst team defensive net rating and rank in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game to guards on tap tonight, I don’t see a reason why Russell doesn’t go for 35 plus again in this one.

Josh Giddey ($6,000 DK, $6,000 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
101.75 20.3% 0.99 27th 41.68

I am hoping Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is out tonight as Giddey would be a lock play for me. While the numbers have not shown it yet this season as Giddey has almost the same usage rate and same fantasy points per minute with Shai off the court this season Shai’s absence should lead to Giddey taking on a bigger role in the offense. Giddey should be the primary ball-handler for the Thunder if Shai is out and that would allow his all-around game to really shine. While Shai playing of course would be a knock on Giddey we would still be looking at a player who has produced 30 fantasy points in four straight games against a Hawks team allowing the sixth-most fantasy points per game to shooting guards and I will still be having plenty of shares of Giddey tonight.

Small Forward

Gordon Hayward ($6,800 DK, $6,500 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
106.50 20.3% 0.89 4th 38.27

I am not sure how I feel about Hayward tonight as he stunk up the joint the last time the Hornets took on the Wizards. With that being said as of this writing Hayward is the small forward that I have the most exposure to for a couple of reasons. The first reason is frankly the small forward position is kind of lame tonight. The second reason is Hayward is playing some strong basketball. Yes, he stunk against the Wizards and Warriors a couple of games ago but sandwiched between those two bad nights were two games before those where he produced at least 36 fantasy points and two games after where he produced at least 33 fantasy points.

DeAndre Bembry ($3,100 DK, $3,700 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
107.25 10.7% 0.68 6th 39.45

The small forward position is so bad tonight that I am going to be rostering Bembry even with Kevin Durant back. The reason why I am going to be rostering Bembry is that he is dirt cheap at only $100 above the site minimum salary on DraftKings and $200 above the site minimum on FanDuel. Bembry is not only dirt cheap but he is expected to start again even with Durant back as Joe Harris is out. In his only other start, this season which was the Nets’ last game Bembry played 41 minutes which was the second time in his past three games that he played over 30 minutes. Bembry produced 17 fantasy points in that game against the Magic and 25 fantasy points in the game against the Warriors which was the other game he played over 30 minutes.

Power Forward

John Collins ($7,200 DK, $7,300 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
111.75 19.5% 1.08 13th 51.29

I really like the way Collins is playing right now. In his past five games, Collins is averaging 20.6 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 2.6 steals+blocks. Collins has at least 37 fantasy points in four of those five games and is averaging 39.38 fantasy points per game during this stretch. Collins is not only playing well right now but there is not a better match-up in the NBA for power forwards than the Thunder. The Thunder have allowed the most fantasy points per game to the position this season.

Center

Jonas Valanciunas ($8,900 DK, $8,000 FD)

Team Total Usage Rate Fantasy Points Per Minute Opponent Defensive Net Rating Rank Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Position
105.75 23.9% 1.24 10th 53.81

Valanciunas has struggled to find his way since Brandon Ingram returned to the Pelicans lineup five games ago only producing over 40 fantasy points one time in that time frame but I am not worried about him tonight. The reason why I am not worried about Valanciunas tonight is due to the match-up against the Wolves. The Wolves led by Karl-Anthony Towns have struggled to defend the position. This season the Wolves are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points per game to centers and Towns ranks 24th among centers in defensive net rating with a rating of 105.9. Valanciunas has also destroyed the Wolves in their two previous meetings which were games that Ingram played in. In those two games, Valanciunas is averaging 21 points, 20 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.5 blocks. Valanciunas has at least 54 fantasy points in both of those games.
