Week 11 NFL DFS: The Value Report

Welcome to the Value Report for Week 9. Sharing top value plays at each position for FanDuel, DraftKings & Yahoo! contests.

There are a lot of different ways to determine who is a value play when it comes to DFS.

You have your traditional way of basing value strictly off of salary. X player is only Y in salary thus he is a value play. I personally don’t like to determine value that way as just because a player is cheap doesn’t actually mean they are a value. Instead of using just salary to determine value, I like to use projections and salary. I look at how high a player is projected relative to his peers and his salary relative to his peers as well.

For example, Player X is the 5th highest projected wide receiver on DraftKings but is only the 15th most expensive wide receiver. That to me is a great value. Another way I like to look at value is to look at how expensive a player is relative to other sites. For instance Player G is the 4th most expensive quarterback on FanDuel and the 5th most expensive quarterback on DraftKings but is the 13th most expensive quarterback on Yahoo. That player would also stand out as a value for me on Yahoo. In this article, we will be breaking down some of the top values we have found using those two formulas on each of the three sites for each of the positions.

Note: You will see some changes in the Salary Rank and Projection rank. Though this article only pertains to the Main Slate of games the Salary Rank and Projection Rank will encompass all players for the week (Thursday-Monday). You can also sort the projection and salary ranks directly on FC now under the columns titled Position Rankings and Overall Rankings.

I am going to be focusing on salary rank to projection rank this week once again for this article. As a quick reminder, I am also only looking at running backs and wide receivers who have a projection over ten and tight ends with a projection over five.

Quarterback Values

The site’s salary rank and our projection rank are in line for the most part at the quarterback position this week. There is one player that jumps out at me when comparing those two as an excellent value. That player is Tua Tagovailoa. Tua is the 16th most expensive quarterback on DraftKings and the 13th most expensive quarterback on FanDuel but checks in as our 9th highest projected player on the slate.

When it comes to negative value players there are three players who really jumped out at me as negative values this week. The first is Kirk Cousins. Cousins is the 12th most expensive quarterback on DraftKings, 9th on FanDuel, and 7th on Yahoo but checks in as our 17th highest projected player at the position. Justin Fields is the second player that jumps out at me. Fields is between the 13th and 15th most expensive quarterback this week (14th DK, 15th FD, 13th Y!) but is just our 26th highest projected player at the position. The last player is Trevor Siemian. Siemian is the 18th most expensive quarterback on DraftKings, 13th on FanDuel, and 11th on Yahoo but is our lowest projected quarterback on this slate.

Running Back Values

I was not surprised one bit when I saw Mark Ingram as the biggest value on this slate as Alvin Kamara has been ruled out. Kamara’s absence means that Ingram is going to be the main back for the Saints and that makes him now the 2nd highest projected player at the position on this slate. Compare that to Ingram being the 25th most expensive running back on DraftKings and the 17th most expensive running back on FanDuel and you have close to a must-play running back in my eyes. Two other running backs also jump out at me as elite values. Those players are Myles Gaskin who is the 22nd highest priced running back on both DraftKings and FanDuel and the 7th highest projected running back this week. The other player is D’Onta Foreman who is the 30th highest priced running back on DraftKings and 22nd highest priced running back on FanDuel but is our 9th highest projected running back this week.

When it comes to negative value Nick Chubb is the running back that stands out to me. Chubb is the 7th most expensive running back on DraftKings, 2nd most expensive on FanDuel, and 3rd most expensive on Yahoo, and only our 19th highest projected running back this week. I do want to add that Chubb is much higher in my projections this week as I love him in this spot as I talked about in the running back article but it is up to you to decide if you think we are under projecting him as a whole and adjust him if you feel fit. Another player who looks like a negative value on this slate is James Robinson. Robinson is the 15th most expensive back on DraftKings and 14th most expensive on FanDuel this week but checks in as our 23rd highest projected running back this week.

Wide Receiver Values

The only two players that really jumped out at me this week as either a positive value or negative value were DJ Moore as a positive value and Marquise Brown as a negative value. Moore is the 20th most expensive wideout on DraftKings and 16th most expensive on FanDuel and is our 8th highest projected player at the position. When it comes to Brown he is the 9th most expensive wide receiver on DraftKings and 10th most expensive on FanDuel but checks in as our 19th highest projected player at the position. I am sure there are other values or negative value players at the position those are the two that just jumped out at me the most.

Tight End Values

Dan Arnold was a top value last week at the tight end position and is a top value once again this week. Arnold is the 14th most expensive tight end on DraftKings, 12th on FanDuel, and 11th on Yahoo but is our 7th highest projected player at the position this week. Austin Hooper also looks like a great value at least on DraftKings when comparing salary to projection as he is the 22nd most expensive tight end on DraftKings this week but our 9th highest projected player at the position.

The biggest negative value at the position this week is Geroge Kittle. Kittle is one of the three most expensive players at the tight end position (2nd DK, 3rd FD, 2nd Y!) but is only our 13th highest projected tight end this week.

Defense Values

At the defensive position, it is really easy to spot the best value defense this week as the Eagles just jump out at you. The Eagles are the 10th most expensive defense on DraftKings and the 11th most expensive defense on FanDuel but are our third-highest projected defense on this slate and fourth highest overall for the week.

There are a couple of teams who are negative values this week at the position with the Packers jumping out at me as the biggest of the group. The Packers defense is the 8th most expensive on DraftKings, 10th most expensive on FanDuel, and 5th most expensive on Yahoo and is our 17th highest projected defense of the week. I will say that this is one of those few times I don’t agree with our projections on a defense as the Packers have not allowed a touchdown in 20 straight drives and have been an elite unit outside of that disaster of a week one game against the Saints. Take that how you will but that is one of the best things about FantasyCruncher is we make it really easy to adjust projections how a user feels fit especially with NFL and our new projections tab.
