Core Plays

Harrison Burton – DK: $9,900 – Starting 7th

Taking a little bit of a different approach this week and going with Burton over the likes of Gibbs and Cindric. As always, the prior do deserve ownership on the slate (and every slate) but as the struggle has been all year with no practice or live qualifying, we are set to lean on historical data and recent form. While Ty Gibbs likely has the highest upside with great equipment and a starting spot of 10th, he also has three straight finishes outside of the top ten. Cindric is starting second which means he will need to hold front which is something he certainly can and usually does, but the price tag is high here. Burton is $900 cheaper than Cindric and with the 7th starting spot we have a little more wiggle room. Burton has finished 3rd and 11th in his last two races here but has posted a driver rating over 100 in both. In 30 races on the year, Burton has 21 top-ten finishes and should go slightly lower owned than my perceived chalk of Gibbs, Cindric, Allmendinger.

Joey Gase – DK: $5,600 – Starting 37th

There is no revolutionary strategy when rostering cheap drivers in the Xfinity Series – most starting in the back have poor equipment that won’t make it through a race and most drivers under $7,000 are absolute dart throws. I know that sounds like the cheap way out here, but time has proven it to be the truth. Pricing for Xfinity is usually pretty sharp and if we get someone starting far back in the field, we usually have to pay up to compensate for it. Gase starts 37th here and is running better equipment than a lot of other drivers in this range. At worst, we are getting someone with differential upside at the sixth cheapest price on the slate. Compared to the field, Gase has more Cup experience than most.
