Week 6 NFL DFS Quarterbacks (QB) Targets For FanDuel & DraftKings

Welcome to the FC Insights Quarterback Targets Article. In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays at the QB position for each DFS week of the 2021-2022 NFL DFS season.

Top Plays

Patrick Mahomes ($10,000 FD, $8,300 DK)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game Opponent Total Passing Touchdowns Allowed Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to QBs
Washington Football Team 31.25 293.4 14 27.84

There is a lot that goes into this play that makes it great and we can cover them all pretty quickly. For starters, the Chiefs carry the slate’s highest projected team total at 31.25, this is two full points higher than the next highest projected. Second, we can look to matchup here as the Chiefs draw arguably the best in the NFL with a Washington Football Team that is really struggling in the secondary. The Football Team is allowing near 300 yards passing this year and an astoundingly bad 27.84 fantasy points to the quarterback position per week. Last week against Buffalo, Mahomes threw a season-high 54 times – in fact, the 54 attempts were a career-high for Mahomes. While a lot of this came from playing from behind against Buffalo, the injury to Clyde Edwards-Helaire also plays into this. With no confident rushing attack, Mahomes should put the ball in his hands to be effective. The worry here is the status of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Hill did not practice on Wednesday and it goes without saying a week without Hill is a massive blow to this potent passing game. Regardless though, the Chiefs are going to need to put up points, and the ball being in Mahomes hands against the arguably worst secondary in football is a recipe for success despite the high price tag.

Lamar Jackson ($8,200 FD, $7,400 DK)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game Opponent Total Passing Touchdowns Allowed Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to QBs
Chargers 27.50 214.2 8 15.82

Lamar Jackson and the Ravens draw a home matchup against the Chargers this weekend in what very well could be an early preview of a future playoff matchup. Looking above, we can see the Chargers’ passing defense is pretty strong, holding opponents to just 214 yards passing per game and a pretty low fantasy number. But, Lamar Jackson blurs the line between quarterback and running back and while the Chargers passing defense is strong, their rushing defense currently ranks dead last in the NFL – allowing 157 yards rushing per game. Jackson has now passed for over 300 yards in his last two games and has carried the ball 56 times through five games. The Ravens have the second-highest team total on the slate and both of these teams can play at a pretty quick pace. In what should be a close game on paper, the dynamic Jackson is a guy I love to target. Again, this falls on the higher-priced side, but with just a 10-game main slate, the lines we draw in the sand now need to be a little stronger.

Value Plays

Matthew Stafford ($7,900 FD, $6,700 DK)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game Opponent Total Passing Touchdowns Allowed Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to QBs
Giants 29.00 270.20 10 21.52

Putting Matt Stafford under the “value plays” header here feels a little risky on my part, but when comparing his salary to others on this 10-game slate, there is certainly value there. The Rams hold the second-highest total on the slate at 29 and face a Giants team who ranks around the bottom five of the NFL in various pass defenses. Stafford on the year has only fallen below 20 fantasy points one time, and that was week two against the Colts when he scored 18.22. We have already seen the connection Stafford has developed with Cooper Kupp, but the connection with Robert Woods also stood out last week. Stafford currently ranks third in the NFL for passing yards and sixth for passing touchdowns. The only concern here is Stafford’s numbers take a small dip on the road, and New York is not always the easiest place to play – regardless of that personal sentiment, the 29 team total for the Rams here should put that concern to rest.

Carson Wentz ($6,700 FD, $5,400 DK)

Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game Opponent Total Passing Touchdowns Allowed Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to QBs
Texans 25.75 257 7 20.15

Picking on the Texans isn’t going to be a new idea in 2021, but with a poor offense and not a ton of name talent, it is hard to knock the concept. While the “hate on Carson Wentz” community is usually pretty loud, Wentz himself has actually been pretty good on the year. If we remove a poor week three against the Titans, Wentz is averaging near 20 fantasy points per contest and is fresh off of a 400-yard passing performance against the Ravens. Over his last two starts, Wentz has a QB rating of around 120 and has four touchdown tosses to no interceptions. We likely are not going to get a 350+ yards, four-touchdown game anytime soon out of Wentz, but at this low price, it is hard to dispute that the play holds value. There is a very realistic 4x value on the salary here as despite the Texans passing defense not being absolutely horrible, the high variance of the poor offense should keep the ball in the Colts’ hands more often than not. The running game will always be the 1A here, but Wentz does appear to be fully behind his ankle injuries and the price here is just too low to not consider.
