Core Plays

Chase Elliot – DK: $10,700 | FD: $14,500  – Starting 8th

The king of road course races steps up to the Charlotte Roval this weekend, a race that he has won the last two times he has driven it. Elliot has five straight top-five finishes on road courses, and of those five top-fives, four of them are firsts or seconds. Since 2019, Elliot has won six races on road courses, and he took the checkered flag at the Roval in 2020 after starting 19th (he led 27 of 109 laps) and again in September of 2019 when he won after starting 19th (he led 35 of 109 laps). In Elliot’s last ten races on road courses, he has led 24 or more laps six times, which is roughly a quarter to a third of each race. Anything can happen in any race, but Elliot is the undisputed road course king and while he is usually chalk in these races, when it comes to the best overall plays it will be pretty hard to argue me (outside of using leverage/ownership). Elliot carries 2:1 odds to win this weekend.

Ryan Preece – DK: $6,000 | FD: $5,500 – Starting 31st

It has not been the most luxurious season for Ryan Preece, but he does have a few top-20 finishes over his last five races and still is averaging 23 fantasy points per race on the year. Better yet, we get a guy priced pretty low that we can grab place differential on as Preece starts way back in 31st. In Preece’s last two runs here at the Roval, he carries an average finish of 17th with a 14th and a 21st. Last time out here in October of last year, Preece even managed to lead eight laps. There is still risk here based on his overall average to poor road course resume, but between September 2019 and June of this year, Preece had six straight races where he finished 23rd or better. Grabbing ten spots of differential at this price may be all we need as long as we nail the top.
