Chalk Talk: NFL DFS Player Ownership Report – DraftKings & FanDuel – Week 5 (10/10/21)

Welcome to Chalk Talk – an article dedicated to deep diving the slates projected highest owned players.

In this article, we will look at the projected most popular player at each position using Awesemo’s ownership projections and determine if the popular play is considered a hot, cold, or neutral option for this week.

As a note, if I am hot on a player, I will likely have ownership over the projected amount. Cold means I will have ownership considerably lower than the projected amount, while neutral means I am around the projected amount. It should be noted that ownership projections are still projections, and this article is based solely on my personal opinions.

Name DK Salary FD Salary Matchup DK Ownership Projection FD Ownership Projection Position
Dak Prescott 6,900 8,100 NYG@DAL 11.40% 11.80% QB

Verdict: Cold Dak Prescott is coming off a big week 4 where he went 14 of 22 for 184 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Panthers. Recency bias will keep his popularity high around the industry, but I expect the Cowboys to handle this matchup against the Giants with their defense and aggressive run game. Subsequently, this will lower the ceiling of Dak and his pass-catching options. I’ll be focusing elsewhere in my tournament lineups.

Name DK Salary FD Salary Matchup DK Ownership Projection FD Ownership Projection Position
Derrick Henry 9,000 10,400 TEN@JAX 26.60% 27.30% RB
Najee Harris 6,900 7,300 DEN@PIT 18.00% 17.20% RB

Verdict: Hot / Neutral – The Titans are projected to score 4 touchdowns this week, and Derrick Henry will see plenty of that volume. The matchup vs. Jacksonville should be a better game environment for DFS than last week’s matchup vs. the Jets, and I’m not going to overthink it when it comes to an elite talent like Derrick Henry in a positive game environment. DEN@PIT may have the lowest vegas total on the board this week, but that doesn’t change the fact that Najee is getting insane volume for a running back and around 8 targets per game on top of that.

Name DK Salary FD Salary Matchup DK Ownership Projection FD Ownership Projection Position
Davante Adams 8,200 8,200 GB@CIN 18.40% 19.70% WR

Verdict: Hot – This is another one not worth over-thinking. Davante Adams matches up this week with an injury-riddled Bengals secondary and has slate-breaking potential in this spot. I’ll be differentiating my lineups elsewhere.

Name DK Salary FD Salary Matchup DK Ownership Projection FD Ownership Projection Position
George Kittle 5,600 6,500 SF@ARI 10.80% 12.50% TE

Verdict: Cold Kittle is in an exciting matchup vs. the Cardinals this week. However, he’s the most likely pass-catcher from this 49ers offense to lose potential targets. Arizona has a decent pass-rush, and he may be left blocking more than route running. I’ll be looking at cheaper options to fill the TE position in my tournament lineups this week.

Name DK Salary FD Salary Matchup DK Ownership Projection FD Ownership Projection Position
WAS Football Team 2,300 3,800 NO@WAS 10.30% 4.60% DST
Panthers 3,400 3,800 PHI@CAR 6.00% 10.50% DST

Verdict: Cold – Choosing which defense to play in DFS is similar to Chaos Theory; defensive touchdowns are very random, and any defense can be in the winning lineup on any given slate. Don’t overthink this one; play every defense equally based on what fits in your lineup.
