The NBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings NBA DFS Picks – May 3, 2021 (5/3/21)
In this article, we will be breaking down some of our favorite plays on the slate at their positions. Please note that players on DraftKings have multi-position eligibility and may not always match their position on FanDuel. Remember to always keep your eye on the news as the day progresses as NBA news changes the slate frequently.
Ben Simmons – I might be making a huge mistake tonight with Simmons but it is a mistake I am willing to live with. Simmons is only $7,600 on DraftKings and $7,200 on FanDuel tonight as he had been playing limited minutes. I say had been playing limited minutes as he was able to play 34 minutes against the Spurs in that overtime game. That makes me believe that Simmons is back to playing his normal minutes and that would make Simmons a steal. Simmons averages 1.17 fantasy points per minute this season. The Bulls are also one of my favorite teams to pick on with point guards. This season the Bulls rank in the bottom half of the NBA in fantasy points allowed per game to point guards while having the fourth-worst defensive efficiency against the position.
Killian Hayes – Cory Joseph is out once again for the Pistons and that puts me right back on Hayes who has played extremely well since coming back from injury in games that Joseph has missed. In those five games, Hayes is averaging nine points, 2.8 rebounds, 7.6 assists, 2.2 steals, and 28.56 fantasy points per game during this stretch. The Magic are also a team to target point guards against as they have struggled to defend them throughout the year. This season the Magic rank in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game and defensive efficiency to point guards.
DeMar DeRozan – This is not a great match-up for DeRozan as the Spurs take on the Jazz but even with the bad match-up against the Jazz DeRozan jumps out at me as an elite play. The reason why DeRozan jumps out at me is due to the way he has been playing especially over his past four games. In those four games, DeRozan is averaging 29.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, ten assists, and a steal. DeRozan has at least 50 fantasy points in three of those games.
Lonnie Walker – I am not playing Team FC’s favorite player Walker on FanDuel where he is listed at $4,800 in salary but will have a lot of shares of him on DraftKings where he is under $4,000 in salary. I am going to have a lot of shares of Walker based on the way he has played in the Spurs’ last three games since Derrick White suffered his season-ending injury. In those three games, Walker has played at least 29 minutes and is averaging 21.67 points and 26.8 fantasy points.
RJ Barrett – Minutes are king in the NBA and no one is playing as many minutes as Barrett is right now. Barrett has played at least 36 minutes in eight straight games for the Knicks and is averaging 41 minutes during this stretch. Barrett is not just playing a lot of minutes but he is also playing well in those minutes especially over the Knicks’ past four games. In those four games, Barrett is averaging 21.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and a steal. Barrett has at least 40 fantasy points in three of those four games.
Kent Bazemore – Kelly Oubre is not going to be able to suit up for the Warriors for the foreseeable future and that is good news for Bazemore. With Oubre out Bazemore starts for the Warriors and normally plays well. That has especially been the case since Oubre went down two games ago. In those two games, Bazemore is averaging eight points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a block, and 2.5 steals. Bazemore has at least 29 fantasy points in those games and is averaging 40.2 fantasy points in his past three games.
Daniel Theis – I don’t love Theis as a player in general but hard not to like him for fantasy purposes as he is very consistent with at least 20 fantasy points in six of his past seven games. Theis consistency, however, is not why he is in this article. Theis is in this article based on the Bulls injury report as Nikola Vucevic is questionable after being forced to miss the Bulls’ last game. With Vucevic out Theis is going to get a small boost across the board which just makes him that much more attractive to me.
Moritz Wagner – Wagner has started the past two games with Chuma Okeke out and played well. In those two games, Wagner is averaging 14.5 points, six rebounds, two blocks, and 28.45 fantasy points.
Jonas Valanciunas – I am always nervous whenever I roster Valanciunas as his minutes fluctuate more than my two-year-old’s mood. With that being said I like Valanciunas tonight at his salary as he has played some strong basketball since his three-game absence. In the five games since his return, Valanciunas is averaging 15.6 points, ten rebounds, a steal, and a block. Valanciunas has over 40 fantasy points in three of those five games including in each of Memphis’s past two games.
Willy Hernangomez – Steven Adams has not officially been ruled out for tonight’s game but it looks like he is going to miss his third straight game and the fourth game in the Pelicans past five games. If Adams is out I am all over Hernangomez once again as he has put up huge numbers with Adams out. In the past three games that Adams has missed, Hernangomez is averaging 12.33 points, 10.67 rebounds, and 2.67 steals+blocks. Hernangomez has at least 29 fantasy points in each of those games and is averaging 29.09 fantasy points in the seven games that Adams has missed that he has played this season. Hernangomez doesn’t just get the boost if Adams were to miss but the match-up against the Warriors is a solid one as they rank in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game and defensive efficiency to centers this season.
