Welcome to the Yahoo NFL DFS core plays column for week 17 of the 2020-2021 season.
In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays for Yahoo for each DFS week of the 2020-2021 NFL DFS season.
QB- Aaron Rodgers- $38
I am targeting players that have something to play for this week and that is exactly what we have with Rodgers. The Packers need a win to get the only first-round bye in this season playoffs and if they are going to get it, Rodgers, the likely MVP of the league is going to be the one to take them there. Rodgers really has been that good this season especially after that dud against the Bucs. In the ten games since that dud, Rodgers is averaging 268.5 passing yards per game, has at least three passing touchdowns in eight of those games, and is averaging 25.24 fantasy points. One of those ten games was against the Bears who they face this week and while the Bears defense is really damn good they have struggled a lot since their bye week allowing at least 20 fantasy points to three of the five quarterbacks they have faced including Rodgers. The only thing I will add with Rodgers that does have me a little hesitant to roster him is the Packers did just lose David Bakhtiari their left tackle for the season.
RB- Alexander Mattison- $17
The last time Dalvin Cook missed a game and everyone rushed to roster Mattison it did not work out so well. In that game against the Falcons, Mattison only had 30 total yards for 3.5 fantasy points. While it is possible that Mattison busts again as he has been dealing with a concussion that could limit him I don’t personally think that is the case this week. The reason I don’t believe Mattison busts this week is due to the match-up against the Lions. The Lions have allowed the fourth-most rushing yards per game, most rushing touchdowns, and second-most fantasy points per game to running backs.
RB- Derrick Henry- $42
There is plenty of value on this slate so rostering Aaron Rodgers or another expensive quarterback with Henry is not only doable but feels like a must. The reason why I feel rostering Henry is a must this week is I don’t see any way the Titans don’t unleash him in a game they must win against one of if not the worst run defense in the NFL. The Texans have allowed the second-most rushing yards per game at 151.7 this season, have allowed 20 rushing touchdowns, and the most fantasy points per game to the running back positions. Let us also not forget that the last two times that Henry has faced the Texans he has run for at least 200 yards while scoring at least two rushing touchdowns and producing at least 39 fantasy points.
TE- Trey Burton- $12
It doesn’t look like Jack Doyle is going to be able to play in the Colts final regular-season game of the year and if he is indeed out I really like Burton. Without Doyle in the lineup, Burton would become the Colts’ top tight end in an elite match-up against the Jaguars. This season the Jaguars have allowed the most touchdown catches to tight ends including at least one to the position in five of their past six games and are allowing the fourth-most fantasy points overall per game to the position.
