Core Plays

Harrison Burton – DK: $9,900 – Starting 5th

I hope you have joined me on the Harrison Burton journey over the last two weeks as he has been the core play in this article for the last two races and has now won them both. This is the last race of the season, and even though Harrison Burton isn’t eligible for title contention here, he has proved to have one of the best cars on the track in recent weeks. Maybe it is a bit of an “anti-narrative” but with Burton not being in title contention, I think it takes some pressure off of him this race. He can just go do his thing, which is really what he has done in the last two weeks. Burton’s strength has been shorter tracks, as we have seen some very poor numbers on anything over two miles. Back in March at Pheonix, Burton started second and finished third – however it was also a race that Kyle Busch took part in which always skews the data a bit. The top four of Allgaier, Briscoe, Cindirc, and Haley won’t be able to all co-exist here, and there will likely be some aggressiveness at some point from all of them. We are getting a discount on Burton here and with the proper roster construction we can also roster one of the top four if we wish.

Bayley Currey – DK: $4,900 – Starting 33rd

This for me is just a pure pricing play as Currey is once again to his sub $5,000 price-point that doesn’t feel correct. Currey has consistently been a $6,000 or higher driver and has averaged 22 fantasy points over 25 races. Outside of a poor showing last week at Martinsville, Currey held back to back top 20 finishes with a 12th and an 18th at Kansas and Texas which equalled out to a 44 and 40 fantasy performance, making him an optimal play each week. The disclaimer here is Currey hasn’t been the best driver at mile-long tracks this year and prefers 1.5’s. However this price is the highest upside driver at the lowest cost and will allow you to roster Burton, or any combination of the top drivers if that is the strategy you wish to deploy this week.
