Welcome to the Yahoo NFL DFS core plays column for week 6 of the 2020-2021 season.
In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays for Yahoo for each DFS week of the 2020-2021 NFL DFS season.
RB- Derrick Henry- $35
I am really having a hard time not playing Henry this week despite his high price tag as all the stars are aligned for him to have a monster game. The reason I say this is due to the match-up against the Texans. The Texans had an excellent defensive game last week but for the season has really struggled on that side of the ball especially against the run. This season the Texans are allowing 160.4 rushing yards per game which is second-most in the NFL. The Texans also rank in the bottom ten in both rushing touchdowns allowed and fantasy points allowed per game to running backs. In the last game that Henry faced the Texans, he also took their souls rushing for 211 yards and three scores. If that was not enough for you to roster Henry the fact that the Titans are home favorites should be. Henry is averaging over 18 fantasy points per game in games the Titans are favorite over the past two seasons.
RB- Alexander Mattison- $14
Mattison is going to be the most popular player on Yahoo this week as they are the only site that did not price him up with Dalvin Cook expected to be out. All the other sites have Mattison as one of the more expensive running backs on this slate which is where he really should be. The matchup against the Falcons really is that good. This season the Falcons have allowed at least 19 fantasy points to four of the five teams primary running back which Mattison will be this week that they have faced and are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points per game this season to the running back position. Mattison has also shown that he can play. Last week in about a half of football after Cook went out with an injury, Mattison rushed for 112 yards on 20 carries and had three catches for 24 yards on his three targets. For the season in what would amount to about two games worth of action, Mattison has 219 rushing yards on 44 attempts and a score while also adding in eight catches for 57 yards on nine targets.
After writing this article news broke that the Falcons have shut down their practice facilities due to a Covid outbreak. That puts the Falcons-Vikings game in jeopardy. If that game is canceled of course we will not be rostering Mattison. While I wouldn’t consider him a core play Devonta Freeman at the same salary would be a nice pivot for Mattison if the game is canceled.
WR- Marquez Valdes-Scantling- $15
This might sound crazy but I am actually ecstatic for Valdes-Scantling this week with Davante Adams expected back for the Packers. Valdes-Scantling just does not have the talent to be a number one wide receiver for a team but he makes an excellent number two. Just look at the two games that he has played with Adams compared to the two games that Adams missed. In the two games with Adams in the lineup, Valdes-Scantling caught seven of his 13 targets for 160 yards and a score. In the two games, Adams missed, he only had five catches for 50 yards on 12 targets. Valdes-Scantling averaged 12.75 fantasy points in the games that Adams played and that is the kind of production I expect we see from him this week in a game that has all the makings of a shootout against the Bucs.
DEF- Carolina Panthers- $12
I love to spend down on my defense whenever the opportunity affords itself self and the opportunity has afforded itself this week with the Panthers. The Panthers defense looked awful in the first two weeks of the season but over the past three weeks has been one of the better units in the NFL. The Panthers have allowed 21 or fewer points in each of those games, have six takeaways and five sacks in those games. The Panthers defense is not just playing well right now but I love the match-up against the Bears. The Bears offense is just not good. The Bears have scored over 20 points just two times this season with both of those games coming against teams that are allowing over 30 points per game. The Bears not only don’t score points but they struggle to protect the quarterback allowing ten sacks over the past four games and struggle to protect the football with six giveaways over the past four games. Each opposing defense that has faced the Bears over the past four games has produced at least five fantasy points and I would be shocked if the Panthers didn’t hit at least that mark this week.
