Core Plays

AJ Allmendinger – DK: $11,500 – Starting 22nd

This name likely seems familiar by this point as Allmendinger has been my core play for a lot of races this season. The truth is, how can you blame me? Allmendinger in nine races has seven top ten finishes and a win. More importantly, he is averaging 66.4 fantasy points per race, which leads all of Xfinity DFS by over 14 fantasy points. This in part is due to Allmendinger running a part-time schedule and often starting deep in the back. This week we get the Roval at Charlotte, which is the infield road course. The last time that Allmendinger ran this race was September of 2019 when he started fifth and took the checkered flag, winning the race while leading 20 laps. Allmendinger is always an option on road courses; he finished fourth at Daytona’s road course back in mid-August. The major selling point here is the start of 22nd, which is nothing new for us, but the place differential upside is still huge here and he is going to be one of the favorites to win this race. DraftKings got it right last week with his price being $12,000, but we are back down this week and no real reason to not pay the price.

Jade Buford – DK: $7,400 – Starting 24th

Buford is a name we usually only see at road courses as he has only run three races at the Xfinity level so far this season – Daytona, Road America, and Indy. In those three races, Buford has an average finish of 16th and an average fantasy output of 34 points. This is the comfort level here and though there isn’t a ton of ground-breaking analysis here, Buford is safe and comfortable and experienced when running on road courses throughout his young career and he has also completed every race he has run. For me, this is an under-appreciated stat when it comes to picking lesser-known drivers, as a 100% completion rate raises the overall ceiling of a play. This tells us that no only can we trust the driver, but more importantly we can trust the car. With a 24th place start and an average finish of 16th, we get an easy upside on Buford here. This isn’t the cheapest play to highlight, so you can see some cheaper plays I like below in my cheat sheet.
