Welcome to the WNBA Rundown for FanDuel and DraftKings contests on Friday, September 4, 2020.
Guards to Target
Kiara Leslie ($6,000 DK/$3,300 FD)- This play is all about the salary savings that Leslie brings you as she is dirt cheap on both sites. Now, I know what you are thinking if you are just playing someone for their salary to be able to afford more expensive players couldn’t you just roster anyone? Technically you could just roster anyone in this case but not everyone is going to play minutes in the mid-20s like Leslie is playing. Leslie has played at least 20 minutes in five straight games and in six of her past seven games. Out of those six games, five were games she played at least 24 minutes. Now, Leslie has not done much in those minutes as she is only averaging 14 fantasy points in the games she has played over 20 minutes but honestly, that is more than enough for me as 14 fantasy points would easily pay off her salary.
Odyssey Sims ($6,600 DK/$5,200 FD)- I currently don’t have a ton of exposure to Sims on FanDuel but I do have a ton of exposure to her on DraftKings. I also imagine that my FanDuel exposure goes higher and higher throughout the day as I really like the spot for Sims tonight. After missing the start of the season, Sims was brought back into the fold slowly but has not played at least 20 minutes in three of the Lynx past four games. In those three games, Sims has produced 36.9, 15.5, and 18.6 FanDuel points. While the 15.5 FanDuel points is not something to write home about it is not lineup killing at her salary. Besides I have a feeling we see closer to 25 fantasy points from her tonight as the Wings are a team that doesn’t defend well.
Forwards to Target
Kayla Thornton ($6,700 DK/$5,500 FD)- Thornton has played at least 24 minutes in six straight games for the Wings and has played at least 29 minutes in five of those games. In those six games, Thornton is averaging 10.7 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 1.3 steals. Thornton has at least 17 fantasy points in five of those games and is averaging 24.4 fantasy points per game during this stretch. That level of production easily makes Thornton one of the top values on this slate and that is not even factoring in the fact that she destroyed the Lynx when they played a couple of weeks ago with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals on her way to 38.2 fantasy points.
Napheesa Collier ($11,300 DK/$8,400 FD)- I hope the game log watchers see Collier’s last game against the Wings and avoid her tonight as I would love to get her at low ownership. I doubt it happens though as Collier has been on a tear ever since Sylvia Fowles went down with an injury. In the nine games since Fowles went down, Collier is averaging 18.7 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.1 steals, and 1.9 blocks. Collier has at least 35 fantasy points in each of those games expect the game against the Wings and is averaging 45.2 fantasy points per game during this stretch. Those numbers along with the fact that the Wings allow the second-most rebounds per game and fourth-most points per game this season make me believe that Collier just had an off game which happens last time these two teams faced off.
