The NBA Rundown – FanDuel & DraftKings NBA DFS Picks – August 1, 2020 (8/1/20)

Welcome to the NBA Rundown for FanDuel and DraftKings contests on Saturday, August 1, 2020.

I had a rough time yesterday being too cute in the Milly Maker on DraftKings and hope you guys faired way better than I did. For today’s article, I am going to give you two players at each position that I am going to have a ton of exposure to. These might not be my top-ranked guys at each position but they are guys that I am personally playing a lot of.

Please note that due to the multiple position eligibility of most players on DraftKings we will be using FanDuel’s positions for this article.

Point Guard

Reggie Jackson ($4,100 DK/$4,100 FD)- I expect Patrick Beverly to move back to the starting lineup for the Clippers today and for Landry Shamet to play more minutes as he works his way back from a case of the Coronavirus but even with those two guys back I really like Jackson. With Lou Williams still locked in his hotel room after his trip to Magic City for chicken wings, we should still see Jackson play minutes in the upper 20s if not in the low 30s like he did against the Lakers. Jackson shouldn’t just play a lot of minutes once again but we should see him easily produce in the 20 fantasy point range if not a lot more as the Pelicans are not the defensive team that the Lakers are. The Pelicans rank in the bottom half of the league in defensive efficiency and fantasy points allowed per game to point guards. This game also has the highest projected total on the slate by over ten points.

Shake Milton ($5,600 DK/$4,400 FD)- The 76ers are going with a new starting lineup in the restart moving Milton into the starting lineup at the point guard position while moving Ben Simmons to power forward in place of Al Horford. This is a very interesting starting five and one we did see play together in the regular season as each of the five were on the court together for less than a minute before the season was paused. The unknown about how these five are going to perform together does make Milton a risky play but with the way, Milton was playing before the shutdown and what is likely going to be a very low ownership percentage I like taking the risk with Milton.

Shooting Guard

Paul George ($7,900 DK/$7,700 FD)- I really like the way PG13 looked in his first game back against the Lakers. In that game, George went for 30/5/3 with three steals on his way to 44.5 fantasy points. With the Pelicans on tap today who once again are not a great defensive team at all I just don’t see George slowing down in this one. At under $8,000 in salary on both sites George just seems like a steal for me.

Troy Daniels ($3,000 DK/$3,500 FD)- If Jamal Murray who is listed as questionable today does not play Daniels is a lock button play for me at the site minimum on each site as the Nuggets would be down three starting guards in Murray, Gary Harris and Will Barton. Even if Murray plays I still like Daniels as he is league minimum salary on both sites, can fill it up as he showed during the scrimmage, and is in line for solid minutes off the Nuggets bench.

Small Forward

LeBron James  ($10,900 DK/$10,900 FD)- The Lakers really don’t have anything to play for in their remaining seven games as they are 6.5 games ahead of the Clippers with seven games to go. That normally would cause me to take a pause on the Lakers stud players especially James as he tends to cruise at the end of the regular season but I don’t think that happens in the bubble. I feel James and the rest of the Lakers play out the season as if they were still fighting for the playoffs as that is how they were playing in game one. Anytime James is motivated as he seems to be I am going to roster him as there is no one in the league better.

JaKarr Sampson ($3,000 DK/$3,500 FD)- With Domantas Sabonis out for the Pacers Sampson is projected to start and that is all I really need to roster Sampson at the site minimum salary on both sites. It does also help that we have seen Sampson start for the Pacers this season and we have some history of him playing without Sabonis. This season in his ten starts, Sampson is averaging 6.2 points and 3.5 rebounds in 20.5 minutes of action. In the three games that he played that Sabonis missed, Sampson averaged 6.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, a block, and 15.37 fantasy points. While both of those stats are not going to blow you away they would pay off his salary and I actually expect them to be better as I expect Sampson to play more in what amounts to a meaningless game.

Power Forward

Bam Adebayo ($8,100 DK/$8,400 FD)- I am a big fan of the player Adebayo has become the past two seasons but I don’t actually like him in this game. The Nuggets are just a bad match-up for him as they had the number one defensive efficiency against centers which is the position that Adebayo plays before the shutdown. Why in the world is Adebayo in this article as someone that I am going to have a lot of exposure to then? That is a good question with a simple answer. There just are not that many decent power forwards on this slate and Adebayo is going to make it into my lineups by default.

Kyle Kuzma ($4,300 DK/$4,700 FD)- The Lakers played most of the Clippers game with a Kuzma and Anthony Davis on the floor together as they both played well over 30 minutes. This is a combination I expect we see again tonight for the Lakers and I like Kuzma at his salary as he looked really good. In that game against the Clippers, Kuzma went for 16 points and seven rebounds on his way to 29.4 fantasy points.

Joel Embiid ($9,700 DK/$9,000 FD)- Embiid is actually my top-ranked player on this slate as he is going to eat against the Pacers. The Pacers were one of the best match-ups for centers before the shutdown as they ranked in the bottom ten in fantasy points allowed per game, defensive efficiency, and team rebounding rate. Embiid also dominated them in his only other game against them this season with 32 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block on his way to 61.2 fantasy points. I also feel that Embiid and the 76ers who many wrote off before the shutdown come out looking to prove that they are still one of the best teams in the East and a team capable of taking down the Bucks.

Steven Adams ($5,300 DK/$6,000 FD)- On paper, this might seem like a bad match-up for Adams against Rudy Gobert and the Jazz but I don’t think it is as bad as it looks as Adams played well against them before the shutdown. In the two prior meetings, Adams played at least 28 minutes in each of the games and averaged seven points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and 31.4 fantasy points.
