The UFC Goes Back to Las Vegas

The UFC returns to the Apex in Las Vegas after several weeks at Fight Island. This week’s event has gone though several lineup changes with last minute replacements joining in on the action after scheduled fighters withdrew. These are two of my favorite plays for Saturday’s DFS contests on Fanduel.

VICENTE LUQUE (FD $17) – Luque has been climbing the UFC’s welterweight rankings and will have a chance to crack the top ten with a win over Randy Brown on Saturday. He did lose to Stephen Thompson in November of 2019, but rebounded nicely with a 149.0 TKO victory over Niko Price in May of this year. Prior to his loss to Thompson, he had been on a six fight win streak. He is 11-3 overall in the UFC with ten finishes (six coming in the first round). He is averaging 108.9 FPPF and has scored 115+ points in all but one of his eleven victories inside the octagon.

Caveman’s advice: There are very few fighters in the UFC who score as high and as consistently as Luque. He is a significant favorite who can be relied on to score well nearly every time he steps into the octagon. Only Edmen Shahbazyan has a higher average on this card. Given his consistency and high scoring, he should be a used a great deal in both cash and multi-entry contests. With five fighters priced higher or equal to Luque on Fanduel, he is a top value on Saturday.

JAMALL EMMERS (FD $12) – Emmers was priced to fight as the underdog against Timur Valiev, but is now a heavy favorite against last minute replacement, Vince Cachero. Cachero was slated as the replacement less than 48 hours prior to Saturday’s fight and will be stepping up from 135 lb. to make his UFC debut in the 145 lb. featherweight division. Cachero is 1-2 over his last three fights in the LFA. Emmers is 0-1 in the UFC but had been on a four fight win streak prior to losing his octagon debut in a split decision to Giga Chikadze. Emmers also has the distinction to be the only fighter to defeat Cory Sandhagen until Aljamain Sterling defeated him in June of this year.

Caveman’s advice: Emmers looks to be the superior fighter in this matchup and will have several advantages going into Saturday’s fight as Cachero is stepping up to featherweight as a last minute replacement. Current odds make Emmers the biggest favorite of the entire night. At a below average salary, Emmers is a great play with little downside. He should be a top cash play and at +135 to win inside the distance, he has the necessary scoring potential in GPP contests as well. Give him lots of play as a big favorite with only one fighter priced lower on Fanduel.

That’s all for this week. Good luck with your lineups!
