NHL Advanced DFS Cheat Sheets | Saturday, August 1, 2020
Looking for a quick consolidated list of options to play today? Let’s take a look at our DraftKings and FanDuel Cheat Sheets to help navigate today’s slate!
Hockey is back! Action gets underway for the play-in round, which features the 5-12 seeds in each conference at the time when play shut down in March. We’ll see best of 3 Series with the winners in each of the 8 series qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which will follow this round of action.
The NHL has staggered the starting times on Saturday, with the first puck drop set for noon EST, and the last game of the day set to start at 10:30pm est, with games being played in two bubble cities, Toronto and Edmonton.
For Saturday’s slate, we have two games with projected totals of 6 goals (CAR/NYR & CHI/EDM), and the two largest favourites on the board are the Oilers and Pens – whom I expect to be the most popular options when it comes to stacking. Because of the fact that most teams played one ‘exhibition’ game before jumping into a playoff environment, I expect the hockey to be pretty sloppy overall, and tough to predict…but I am expecting the highly skilled teams to likely ‘get up to speed’ more-so than the teams that rely on defensive systems…which usually take some time for teams to settle into. I’ll be favouring young, skilled teams early (and quite possibly all the way through the play-in round) when it comes to my exposures.
As for this slate in particular, the big guns for the Oilers are likely going to garner plenty of interest going up against a Hawks team that 1) isn’t that good and 2) Corey Crawford is coming off of a recovery from the Coronavirus – and even though he looked solid in the Hawks tune-up exhibition game, his quote sounded far from ideal in terms of a goalie that trusts his ability to be ready for this one. When you layer in the fact that McDavid and Draisaitl are going up against him, I like the idea of going over-weight exposure to EDM1, EDM2, and EDM PP1 in this one.
I won’t argue the spot the Pens are in as well, but if you are looking for a lower owned stacking option, I think the Rangers/Canes game is an excellent one to go heavy with exposure to. Both teams play a run and gun style with plenty of explosive offensive weapons, and I wouldn’t even be opposed to rolling with a game stack here, as I would be surprised if this one doesn’t end up being the highest scoring game on the slate. If you are looking for the lower owned option, the Rangers are in just as good of a spot as Carolina is in my opinion for this series – and I would not be shocked one bit to see them pull off the modest upset in what should be a highly entertaining series. NYR PP1 is my favourite option to stack here in this game – they are electric – and opting for that route gives you exposure to Panarin, in addition to the likes of Zibanejad & Kreider, with Deangelo on the back-end, who was one of the game’s best point producers on the back-end before the pandemic hit. Edit: Deangelo missed Friday’s practice and is now questionable. If he doesn’t suit up, Jacob Trouba is a great option to plug in as a cheaper way to get exposure to the Rangers on the back-end. Either him or Adam Fox will run the PP1 if Deangelo doesn’t play!
As a final note, I love to stack the Panthers – and their top PP unit is particularly cheap, especially on FD. The Islanders went into the pandemic on a tail-spin, losing 7 straight, and while they get to hit the pause button and attempt to re-group here, I think they are in tough against a Panthers team loaded with talent.
