Welcome to the NBA Rundown for FanDuel and DraftKings contests on Thursday, July 30, 2020.
The NBA is back baby! That is right the NBA kicks off the seeding portion of their season tonight from the bubble in Disney World with two games and the sites have come to play. Both FanDuel and DraftKings have a $4 entry fee-150 max-million dollar top prize for tonight’s slates. While we are likely to see some ties for first tonight it is fun to dream of winning that Milly all to yourself.
Please note that due to the multiple position eligibility of most players on DraftKings we will be using FanDuel’s positions for this article.
Reggie Jackson ($4,600 DK/$3,800 FD)- Jackson was solid in his nine games with the Clippers before the shut-down with averages of 9.4 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 17.86 fantasy points in just shy of 20 minutes per game. Jackson is expected to take on an even bigger role in the seeding games especially tonight as the Clippers should be shorthanded. The Clippers will be without Lou Williams who is forced to quartine for ten days after his famous Chicken Wing incident and are very likely to be without Patrick Beverly whose status right now is really up in the air. Landry Shamet also could miss tonight’s game as well but as of now is expected to play. If Beverly is out as expected we should see Jackson play minutes in the upper 20s tonight. If Shamet were also to miss for whatever reason that number is likely to jump all to the mid-30s.
Alex Caruso ($3,700 DK/$3,500 FD)- The Lakers are going to be without both Avery Bradley who is sitting out the restart and Rajon Rondo who broke his thumb. With both of those players out the Lakers are going to be down two starting point guards. Rondo is the big injury when it comes to Caruso as Caruso should play minutes in the low 20s tonight. In the regular season in games, Rondo missed Caruso, averaged around three more minutes per game and two more fantasy points per game. Getting a little bit weird on this slate is something you are going to have to do if you want to try to win the Milly especially solo and getting weird with Caruso is certainly not the worst idea tonight.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope ($4,000 DK/$3,700 FD)- KCP is another player I am going to get weird with tonight as he is will get a boost with Avery Bradley out. This season in the 14 games that Caldwell-Pope played with Bradley out of the lineup he averaged 17.96 fantasy points in 27.3 minutes of action.
Brandon Ingram ($8,300 DK/$7,300 FD)- Ingram is not going to fly under the radar tonight even with LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard on this slate but even with him being chalk I love Ingram tonight. The reason why I love Ingram is the simple fact that Zion Williamson is not expected to play tonight and if he does play it will be limited minutes. Williamson’s absence is a huge boost for Ingram. This season in the game that Williamson missed, Ingram averaged 25.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 42.39 fantasy points. His numbers were higher in each of those categories.
Kyle Kuzma ($4,500 DK/$4,700 FD)- Anthony Davis is now expected to play tonight’s game but if for some reason Davis misses Kuzma would be a lock play for me. This season in the seven games that Davis has missed Kuzma is averaging 20.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and ten more fantasy points per game at 29.73. Even with Davis expected to play Kuzma is one of those players that I am going to have a lot of shares of with the hopes that he gets hot off the bench as my whole goal on this slate as I am chasing the Milly is try to be as different as possible in most of my lineups.
Ivica Zubac ($4,500 DK/$4,500 FD)- Center is ugly tonight but I really like Zubac due to Montrezl Harrell’s absence. With Harell out, we are going to see Zubac play more minutes though there is a chance he is capped as he just was able to rejoin the Clippers. In the one other game that Harrell missed this season, Zubac went for 15 points and 12 rebounds on his way to 34.4 fantasy points.
Joakim Noah ($3,100 DK/$3,800 FD)- Noah is another get weird with it play tonight as I could see him playing minutes in the 20s as once again Montrezl Harrell is going to be out and there is a chance that Ivica Zubac is capped tonight. If Noah plays in the 20s he could be a difference-maker as he looked like he still had his all-around skill in the scrimmages. In fact, in one of the scrimmages, Noah only scored one point but still produced 27 fantasy points thanks to six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and five blocks.
Normally my cheat sheets are going to give you the players that I am highest on or have the highest exposure to on a slate but for this small two-game slate I am going to list every single player that is currently in my player pool.
