DraftKings & FanDuel NASCAR DFS – GEICO 500 – June 21, 2020 (6/21/20)
Joey Logano – DK: $10,200 | FD: $13,000 – Starting 9th
As we spoke in our Xfinity article, Talledega Superspeedway can be very unpredictable and random race. With stretches of four or five wide and some of the highest speeds out of any race you can expect a lot of wrecks and a small field likely finishing this one. Historically, drivers starting further in the back have better overall averages in terms of fantasy points and we have consistently seen $3,000 or more salary being left on the table in the optimal lineups over the past five years. No matter who you roster, you need to be wary and open to the fact that anything can happen here. This is not a week to hit the lock button and it is a week to spread your exposures over more drivers, though as you will see in my cheat sheet there are a handful I like more than others. Logano though is just on a different level at Talledega. Over his last five races here he has four top-five finishes and another just outside the top ten at eleventh. He is consistently graded as one of the best drivers here and has led laps in seven of his last eight races at ‘Dega. Logano has an average finish of 16th here and has taken the checkered flag three times. Of course, everyone is prone to the same risk in a race like this, but Logano tops my list of potential dominators. In the end here we aren’t going to go dominator heavy, but you still will need to find one as someone from the front of the pack is likely to turn in a big performance.
Ryan Preece – DK: $6,200 | FD: $7,200 – Starting 31st
Preece is a guy who has quietly been carving out positive differential finishes in each of his last four races. Both sites finally upped the price here, but it isn’t to a level where it actually affects much. Preece has run this track twice, starting 30th both times and finishing third and eighth. Now, this is a super small sample, but in terms of stacking the back of the field and aiming for differential, Preece is a strong starting point for that. The truth is we are going to want to roster a few risks from back here, so why not take the risk on a guy who has at least shown positive results at the track. There is a wall of other drivers around him like McDowell, Lajoie, Custer, and Nemechek that will all make my player pool this weekend, but Preece gets the benefit of starting a few spots further back than them. Remember, spread your exposures and buckle up, because these races are always a wild ride.
