Welcome to the Daily Rundown for FanDuel for KBO DFS contests on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
Wednesday’s action was pretty boring from a DFS standpoint with the highest total in any one KBO game seeing 9 runs pushed across the plate, with a second at eight runs and the other three at 6 or fewer, resulting in pretty low scores across the board. Looking forward to Thursday’s action, I expect us to see some higher scores put up (and so do the betting lines with 3 games sitting with totals at 10.5 or 11) – and we have no import pitchers slated to start, which is a rarity given what we have seen so far on the KBO projected starter list for the respective day of action. Let’s look at some ways that you can attack your builds!
Pitcher to Target
Using mykbostats.com you can see the projected starters below for Wednesday’s games:
- Hanwha Eagles (Ee Whan Kim, 1-0, 1.64) vs KT Wiz (Hyeong Jun So, 2-0, 3.18)
- LG Twins (Min Ho Lee, 0-0, 0.00) vs. Samsung Lions (Tae In Won, 1-0, 5.73)
- Lotte Giants (Se Woong Park, 0-1, 3.72) vs. Kia Tigers (Ki Young Im, 0-2, 5.62)
- NC Dinos (Jae Hak Lee, 1-0, 3.97) vs. Doosan Bears (Hui Kwan Yu, 1-1, 5.00)
- SK Wyverns (Seung Won Moon, 0-0, 4.63) vs. Kiwoom Heroes (Hyun Hee Han, 1-0, 4.09)
Hyun Hee Han is my favourite option of all the pitchers for the slate. He draws a great match-up against the Wyverns, who have been well documented as the offence to pick on when choosing pitchers so far in the young KBO season. Han misses enough bats that his punch-out upside in this match-up should play well, having recorded 11 K’s through 11 innings in a small sample size this season, and while historically he has been under that K per inning threshold – a match-up with the Wyverns should help him pick up an extra punch-out or two than if he were to face a better offence. I like Han to build on his strong start to the season in this one – and he is my favourite option on the mound for Thursday morning’s action.
Another arm to consider including in your builds is Hueong Jun So of the KT Wiz. He has been very strong through his first two KBO starts, picking up wins in both. The 18 year old is clearly not a finished product, and his K’s are lower than I’d normally like to see – but I think he is a high floor option for Thursday’s slate, going up against the Hanwha Eagles, another team that struggles to push runs across. I do think that we’ll see So’s K/9 normalize somewhat, I wouldn’t expect it to remain this low for very long, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we start to see that move in this start. KT are -175 favourites in this one, and I like So’s chances of going 3-0 to start the campaign.
Stack to Target
My two favourite options to stack today are the KT Wiz and the LG Twins, both of whom go up against very hittable arms and check in with the highest projected run totals for the slate. Since I expect these two teams to be pretty heavily owned with respect to ownership levels – I will cover the key bats that I like from these two teams in the cheat sheet, and focus a written piece on a third stack that I like to sprinkle in exposure to, which is the NC Dinos.
The Dinos draw a match-up against southpaw Hiu Kwan Yu, who has looked very poor through two starts on the season. He has had an up and down career with some dismal years mixed in, and the 33 year old looks to be ripe for the picking for the quality RH sticks that the Dinos have. Despite their 11-2 record on the year, the Dinos have not gotten the bats going a whole heck of a lot, relying on elite pitching to stockpile wins. I do, however – like this spot for them, and my favourite of the options when building out stacks include OF Aaron Altherr – $9, C(IF) Eui Ji Yang – $13 and 3B Suk Min Park – $11. Getting exposure to these three bats is pretty easy to stomach from a salary standpoint, and I love the spot they are in against a hittable arm that hasn’t been able to miss bats, has struggled with control, and who has a volatile history in the KBO all the while getting up there in age. There’s a lot to like here for the Dinos.
Make sure that you confirm that each player in your lineup is in their team’s lineup.
