Welcome to the Daily Rundown for DraftKings KBO DFS contests on Thursday, May 21, 2020.
We have another 5 games on the Thursday slate, with things locking at 5:30am EST.
We’re back for another day of baseball on Thursday, and it surely looks like it’ll be a nice high-scoring slate. Four of the five games feature run totals of 10.0 or higher, with the only one below the double-digit mark just narrowly missing (SK @ KIW playing to a 9.5 total).
KT (-170) and KIW (-153) are the heaviest favourites on this slate – showing you just how much things can change in the blink of an eye in a game like baseball in the win% department.
Let’s take a closer look at how the rest of the slate breaks down.
This was actually a pretty easy decision for me today, as I’m looking at both Hyun Her Han for KIW and Hyeong Jun So for KT as my 1-2 punch on the mound.
At $7,700 and $7,500 respectively, they combine for just a hair over $15,000 and also own the best win probabilities on the board. So may not have electric stuff in the K% category (just 4 in his 11.1 innings to start the year – but the 18 year old has certainly done enough to warrant DFS attention with 1 QS and just narrowly missing (mostly due to pitch count) in the other. Against a soft opponent (HAN) and with a 63% win% – he’s an easy play for me here.
Han for KIW is the other one that I’m going to be playing, and he’s flashed more strikeout potential thus far (11 Ks in 11 IP in 2020 to date) – which shouldn’t entirely surprise given he was near a 9.0 K/9 in 2019 (albeit out of the bullpen). His transition back to the rotation has gone nicely so far, and against the bottom-feeders of the KBO, he’s another strong option that is easy to get excited about for $7,500.
Jae Hak Lee at $9,900 could warrant some ownership as well, particularly in lineup builds where you’re going hard after value on the hitting side of things (particularly OF) – but against Doosan and with a 5.0 opponent total I have a hard time spending that kind of dough for a situation that could easily blow up in our face. Further to that point, Doosan tagged him for 8 ER in 12 IP across 2 starts in 2019 – showing that we could easily spend nearly $10,000 for a 2-5 DKP kind of day. I’ll take the savings and far softer match-ups in Han and So instead.
Hitting Stacks to Target
KT, LG, LOT and NC all have team totals of 5.5 runs or higher – making all four teams very strong and stackable targets here.
Note that DOO is out of the picture in that regard thanks in large part to their match-up with Jae Has Lee – and while I don’t necessarily think they’re a bad group for exposure at all, I’d rather cherry-pick with the plus-split bats rather than going after them with a stacking approach. There are simply better situations to exploit.
KT is easily the top stack on the day in my books, not only for how well they’re playing right now, but also thanks in large part to the skill they hold as a group and the value that exists throughout the lineup. Sim at $2,900 for your SS at the leadoff spot is a tremendous option. Park at the keystone (2B) with a run scored in 4 straight and multiple hits in 3 of his last 4 out of the 7 spot is great for $3,900 as a part of a stack. Jang as a C for $3,500 exhibits a nice blend of wOBA (.386) and ISO (.195) skill over the last calendar year – and the quality at backstop in the KBO isn’t exactly plentiful.
Pairing one, two or all three of those guys with a Baek-Ho Kan, Mel Rojas Jr or Jae-Gyun Hwang for example (all elite names for KT) is going to lead you to a pretty good start in my books.
Sprinkle them in with some 3-man LG stacks (get Robert Ramos in some of your lineups, please) or some NC/LOT exposure as well – and I think you’ll be pretty happy with the results.
Best of luck out there!
