The UFC is Back on ESPN for Overeem vs Harris (5/16/20)
The UFC offers another short turnaround between events for fights in Jacksonville. With the withdrawal of Mike Davis from the card, the UFC has selected TITAN FC bantamweight champ, Irwin Rivera to fill in on short notice. He will fight Giga Chikadze at featherweight on Saturday. Chikadze is a big favorite for this one and at $11 in salary, he will be used a great deal in DFS contests. Instead of dwelling on the obvious value for Chikadze, I have selected two other fighters whose value on Saturday makes them good bargains for DFS contests on Fanduel.
CORTNEY CASEY (FD $14) – Casey may not be an ideal MVP candidate, but she is a solid fighter and the favorite in her matchup with Mara Romero Borella. Borella seems to be outmatched against UFC level competition. Over her last four fights she has just one win and that was by split decision. Casey on the other hand is very competitive at this level and her 8-7 record is somewhat deceiving having twice been on the wrong end of her own split decisions. She can finish and in her eight professional victories, three have come by KO/TKO and three have come by submission. She throws strikes at a good rate and in her wins she has an average of 102.6 FPPF.
Caveman’s advice: Casey has something to prove in this one, which is not good news for Borella. She will be looking to capitalize on this opportunity to return to the octagon, and the oddsmakers like her chances to do so. She has a high average in victories and should dominate her opponent when the fight is on their feet. She will need to be careful to avoid grappling with Borella who does have four wins by submission. If she keeps the fight upright it will be in her favor. Give her 25-35% exposure in multi-entry contests. She is also a solid play in cash lineups on Saturday.
(At the time of this writing, Cortney Casey is -151 with the oddsmakers and has a projected score of 63.48 on Fantasy Cruncher.)
ERYK ANDERS (FD $13) – Anders is a small dog versus Krzysztof Jotko on Saturday, but he has better odds to finish inside the distance than his opponent does. Anders has the third highest overall average of all fighters on Saturday (DraftKings scoring) at 82.8 FPPF. Both fighters in this matchup are 2-3 over their last five fights. Both fighters are on two fight win streaks. In Anders last two fights, he has one win by decision and one first round KO. In thirteen career victories, Anders has nine finishes, eight by KO/TKO.
Caveman’s advice: Although he isn’t a sure thing, his ceiling for this fight is high. Jotko has two losses by TKO over his last four fights, and Anders will have a good chance at a finish in this one. He is priced right for multi-entry contests on Saturday, both for his ability to finish and his opponent’s recent tendency to be finished. Use him with caution in the range of 20-30% of multi-entry lineups for DFS contests on Saturday.
(At the time of this writing, Eryk Anders is +126 with the oddsmakers and has a projected score of 48.93 on Fantasy Cruncher.)
That’s all for this week. Good luck with your lineups!
