Welcome to The Primer column for The 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational! We are here to help you build your DFS lineups for FanDuel, DraftKings or whatever other sites you choose to play on (this article does have a DraftKings bias though).

Last Week’s Results:

  • Gary Woodland -T8
  • Viktor Hovland – MC
  • Joaquin Niemann – MC
  • Vaughan Taylor – T42
  • Denny McCarthy – MC

A week after picking the winner – Woof, that was ugly!

The Best of the Best

  • Rory McIlroy – $11,800

I don’t normally like paying up for the highest priced option, but it’s hard to argue with his 5-1 odds of a win in such a weak field event.  While I would short the 5-1 because the upside is lacking, I do think that the odds are quite high that he is in the mix come Sunday, and I have no problem finding some value options across the board, making his price point something I can stomach from a roster construction standpoint.

  • Patrick Reed – $9,400

Reed’s last PGA outing included a win – and I like his chances of continuing to play great golf this weekend.  He has the ability to compete in deep field events, and is one of the better options this week in what is a pretty weak field.  I think he’ll be in the mix in the final few groups when Sunday rolls around.

The Next Tier

  • Collin Morikawa – $8,400

The rookie has been remarkably consistent, making cuts with the best of them, and he has the type of well rounded game that I think it’s only a matter of time before he starts shooting up leaderboards.  I have a feeling at this time next year, we’ll laugh at the fact we were able to roster him so cheap for so long.  He’s a breakout candidate, and though I think he’ll be one of the higher owned options this weekend, I have no problem eating some chalk here.

  • Viktor Hovland, $8,000

I have no problem doubling down on Hovland this week after his dismal showing last weekend.  You get him at a fraction of the price that he commanded a week ago, and in a weak field event, there is a lot to like here as a low-mid priced option when it comes to building line-ups this weekend.  I like his chances of bouncing back and being relevant this weekend.

Do Not Forget About…

  • Rory Sabbatini, $6,700

This is a buy on the dip scenario – the price is just too attractive for a player with Rory’s background.  He is dirt cheap, and at this point, all you are looking for is him to make the cut – and he has plenty of upside to contend if his game rounds into form as well.  This is a great punt with upside for this weekend’s event!

Here’s to hoping it’s a good one for you as we truck on through the PGA season!  If you have any questions at all, you can find me on Twitter @bradsgotmoxy.
