Sharing core plays and a cheat sheet for the December 12, 2019, NBA DFS slate on FanDuel.
Welcome to our NBA Core Plays & Cheat Sheet column for FanDuel.
We’ll be sharing this article with you for all key slates (2 games+) over the course of the 2019-2020 NBA season. Hope you enjoy!
Core Plays – Main Slate
Morris played over 30 minutes and started the second half of their last game (a loss at the Sixers) when Murray had to leave early (trunk contusion), and it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Murray sitting here or limited in minutes at the very least. Morris has been pretty quiet on the whole this year after having bursts of relevancy in fantasy in 2018-19 – but a 25+ minute, mid-teens kind of usage day could be in the cards here with a less than 100% Jamal Murray. If that proves to be the case, we can expect a 20+ fantasy point night from someone just +$200 over site minimum.
SG – DeMar DeRozan, SAS vs CLE, $8,200
The shooting guard position is a bit of a wasteland here, with DeRozan, C.J. McCollum and then a bunch of lower-middle tier values acting as what I see to be generally dice rolls. The FC Cruncher likes Josh Richardson here at the sub-$5K price tag, but I do worry about his minutes as the Sixers slowly scale him up (plus he didn’t really pass the eye test when I caught a good chunk of PHI/DEN a couple nights ago).
So, I do think what you should do is anchor with a true SG1 type in DeRozan on a short slate where his Spurs have one of the highest totals the board (114.25 points), we’re seeing huge minutes out of him (40+ in 2 straight) and he hasn’t scored less than 30 FP since the middle of November (38+ in 5 of his last 6, too). Very safe and very affordable on this slate given there aren’t many super premium must-starts here (aside from maybe Luka Doncic who I think is someone you can get away with fading, too).
PG – Kemba Walker, BOS vs PHI, $7,700
When you scan the PG position up and down today, you quickly realize it’s quite top-heavy and are going to be tempted to look a little closer to the middle or lower tiers to find someone you’re going to be confident in playing. Well, that’s where Kemba starts to pop off the page for me given the $7,700 price tag, 44.0 FPPG average in his last 3 and 5.7 ROI earning vs his current price tag.
He looks to be getting more comfortable after a rough start to his BOS contract, but showed that when needed, he can dominate the Sixers (54+ FP in 3 of 4 games against them in 2018-19 albeit in a different role with a different team). Thanks to strong recent form, a team-based attack and where an injured Gordon Hayward could lead to additional touches – I’m in on him here on this 4 game slate.
SG – Bruce Brown, DET vs DAL, $3,800
As far as chalkier values go here tonight, Brown should rise to near the top of the list given his 20+ FP returns in back to back outings – especially at a sub-$4,000 price tag. As mentioned above with DeRozan, the SG position is pretty thin here right now, and with Reggie Jackson on the sidelines for the Pistons, it seems that Brown is going to continue to see mid-20s minutes with mid-teens usage. Perfectly viable for a middle of the pack DvP match-up as well against Dallas, and a 18-23 FP outing can be expected which is perfect for SG2 slots in cash games.
I also think that Hassan Whiteside is a smart pivot from Andre Drummond and Joel Embiid on the upper tier side of C. He’s been playing great basketball for the Blazers lately and continues to be underpriced for the production. Tough draw @ Denver here for sure, but still a guy that could rebound and block his way to 40+ points.
