Core Plays – Main Slate
PG – Spencer Dinwiddie, BKN @ ATL, $8,700
Kyrie Irving is expected to miss at least another game or two for the Nets, and Dinwiddie has been lights out with him off the floor. Not only does Atlanta rank at the bottom of the league in terms of overall team DvP as a group – but they’ve been allowing ridiculous production to the position over the last couple weeks with 51.7 FPPG to PGs. Well, given his propensity for playing mid-30s minutes and holding a 30%+ usage rate (which he’s done in 6 straight games now), expecting a big night on Wednesday is certainly reasonable. He hasn’t scored less than 35 fantasy points in 8 straight games (reaching as high as 62.5 in the process), and tonight should be an easy 40+.
SG – Buddy Hield, SAC @ POR, $7,400
The upper-middle tier of SG is very healthy tonight, but Hield stands out to me as one from the group that is basically a full $1,000 cheaper than a handful of them that you can pretty realistically project for 33-38 fantasy points here. Devin Booker, Donovan Mitchell, Jimmy Butler, Andrew Wiggins, Devonte’ Graham and so on. For Hield, he’s been a beast these last 4 games for the Kings, and continues to see big minutes for them while De’Aaron Fox is sidelined (which is the case once again here). He’s scored 40+ FP in back to back and 3 of his last 4 games, playing nearly 40 minutes a night and averaging a usage rate lose to 30% in the process. For how solid POR has been defensively this year, they do have softness against SG, SF and PF per the numbers, so keeping free of PG and C options in this match-up if where you’d want to avoid. Save yourself about a grand or so and pivot down to Hield from the names mentioned above while looking for high-end production from the position.
PF – Frank Kaminsky, PHX @ ORL, $4,300
With Aron Baynes out of the lineup last game – which is also slated to happen tonight – Kaminsky started for the Suns and had a 20.4% usage rate, playing 33 minutes and totalling 30.2 fantasy points. He’s always been the kind of player that can perform when the opportunities for additional floor time and touches open up, and this is one of the softer spots for ORL defensively (attacking them with SG and PF is the right approach). For the price as a PF2 while Baynes remains out, he’s a high floor value that should be pretty popular.
PG – De’Anthony Melton, MEM @ CHI, $4,400
With Ja Morant out, Melton has actually been the MEM PG you wanted to own (Tyus Jones being the defacto starter). Well, Melton’s been playing great in his mid-20s minutes off the bench the last couple games, holding 22%+ usage in the process and delivering back to back games of at least 30 fantasy points. This is a very good spot to get the Bus tonight, who have been subpar defensively as a group over their last 7 games, but do a generally solid job keeping PG and SG types in check. Perhaps not another 30+ kind of night, but a mid-20s fantasy point game for a PG2 slot as a target is still going to nicely pay off the salary. Expect modest ownership here, but someone you can certainly deploy in cash games at a minimum.
