Welcome to the FC Insights Defensive Targets Article. In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays at the DST position for each DFS week of the 2019-2020 NFL DFS season.
In this article, I am going to give you the top three defenses in my personal model which uses a number of factors like Vegas total, match-up, salary, etc. Please note that just because a player is not in this article doesn’t mean that I don’t like them or that they are not in my player pool.
Last Weeks Results
Based off of DraftKings scoring
- Bills (8.00 fantasy points, 2.3x value, DST9)
- Jets (1.00 fantasy points, 0.4x value, DST19)
- Raiders (24.00 fantasy points, 6.0x value, DST2)
Steelers ($5,000 FD, $4,000 DK)
The Steelers defense struggled last game against the Browns but are one of the top defenses in the NFL. The Steelers have at least four sacks in all but two games this season and have the fourth-most sacks this season. The Steelers have at least two takeaways in eight of their ten games this season and are second in the NFL in that department. The Steelers have double-digit fantasy points in seven straight games prior to last week and are averaging 12 fantasy points per game which is second-highest in the NFL. The Steelers defense is not only legit but they are also in one of the best match-ups in the NFL as they take on the Bengals. The Bengals have scored just 23 points since the quarterback change and are scoring the third-fewest points this season. They have also allowed at least two sacks in all but one game, are allowing the fourth-most total sacks and have the fifth-most giveaways. The Steelers defense is going to be the highest scoring on the week and I don’t see a scenario in which I don’t have the most exposure to them on this slate.
Browns ($4,500 FD, $3,800 DK)
The Browns are going to be down two of their best defensive players this week after the Thursday night fight but I still like them this week at their salaries due to the match-up against the Dolphins. The Dolphins while as not as bad as they were to start the season continue to struggle on the offensive end of the field. This season the Dolphins are averaging the second-fewest points per game, have allowed the second-most sacks per game and have the fourth-most giveaways. The Dolphins have allowed eight of the ten opposing defenses they have faced this season to produce double-digit fantasy points and are allowing the second-most fantasy points per game to the position.
Falcons ($4,300 FD, $3,500 DK)
If you look at the Falcons season-long numbers you may not be on them but I personally ignoring those numbers and just focusing on their two games since the bye week. In those two games, the Falcons have allowed just four field goals and racked up 11 sacks. The Falcons have produced at least double-digit fantasy points in each of those games. The Falcons are not just playing lights out football right now but any defense against Jameis Winston is worth looking at. While Winston and the Bucs are going to score some points the Bucs allow a lot of sacks with the fourth-most sacks allowed this season and Winston is a turnover machine. The Bucs have at least one giveaway in each game this season and lead the league in that category with 25 on the season.
