Welcome to the Daily Three Pack where we share three core players on DraftKings that you are going to want to target for MLB DFS contests on Friday, May 17, 2019.
In this article, I am going to give you three core plays that I am using in cash games for the main slate of games. This core will include my favorite pitcher and two of my favorite hitters.
Pitcher to Target
Let me start by saying that Jacob deGrom is my no doubt clear cut SP1 on this slate. There really is no question about it. The question is how do you afford deGrom tonight. One way you afford deGrom tonight is by pairing him with a cheaper option at the pitcher position. While there are several mid-tier and cheap options that I like on this huge slate Lucchesi stands out to me as the best option. Lucchesi is not the best pitcher in the world but he is solid with a FIP of 3.38 and a K/9 rate of 8.71. Lucchesi has produced at least 15 fantasy points in half of his eight starts this season. Those numbers are not the reason Lucchesi stands out to me as an elite SP2. That reason is due to the elite match-up that Lucchesi finds himself in against the Pirates. The Pirates have been one of the worst teams in the majors against left-handed pitching. This season they rank 28th in team wOBA and 29th in team ISO against left-handers while having a team K rate of 27.4% which is the seventh highest in the majors.

Hitters to Target
I had a hard time deciding between Lopez and Jason Kipnis in this write-up. Both players are excellent options at second base at $3,300 in salary as both players are hot. Kipnis has reached base safely in 11 straight games and is coming off a two home run game yesterday. Lopez has five hits with three doubles in his three games since his call up. Both players are also in excellent match-ups tonight and it is truly a coin flip on which player you should use. With that being said if you forced me to chose which one I like better I am going to give the slightest of edges to Lopez. I just like the match-up against Matt Harvey slightly and I mean ever so slightly better than I like Kipnis match-up with Dylan Bundy. While Bundy’s numbers against lefties are bad Harvey’s are actually worst. Since the start of 2016, Harvey is allowing lefties to slash .295/.362/.523 with a .373 wOBA and a 40.4% hard-hit rate.

Riley is another cheap young stud hitter that I like tonight. Like Nicky Lopez, Riley has done nothing but hit since being called up. In his two games, Riley has four hits with a double and home run. Riley while not in as good of a match-up as Lopez is in is also in a great match-up as he takes on Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin has really struggled on the road this season especially against right-handed hitters as he is allowing them to slash .346/.393/.558 with a .403 wOBA in those situations.
