Week 9 NFL DFS Wide Receiver (WR) Targets For FanDuel & DraftKings

Week 9 NFL DFS Wide Receiver (WR) Targets For FanDuel & DraftKings

Welcome to the FC Insights Wide Receiver Targets Article. In this post, we will be breaking down our top options and plays at the WR position for each DFS week of the 2018-2019 NFL DFS season.

The goal of this article is to help you narrow down your options regardless if you are only making one lineup or if you are making multiple lineups. I will break be breaking down my top plays at the wide receiver position into three tiers. Those tiers are top tier, medium tier, and a value tier. At the end of the article, I will also list other wide receivers to consider. These are the wide receivers that I am going to be leaving in my player pool but will not be forcing into any of my lineups whereas I am going to have exposure to the other guys in the article for sure. I am going to try to keep this article to no more than two or three wide receivers in each tier as I am not one to list every wide receiver as I don’t think that does anyone, any good. As always if you guys have questions you can reach out to me on Twitter @zachsgotmoxy my DM’s are always open and I will respond to you as fast as I possibly can.

Top Tier

Adam Thielen  ($8,900 FD, $8,900 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
vs. DET 27.00 146.71 33.1 30th 22.15 FD, 28.08 DK

Thielen has been unstoppable this season and is a must for me every week until he gives me a reason not to play him. Thielen leads the NFL in targets, receptions, receiving yards, 100-yard receiving games which he has an NFL record eight 100-yard games in a row to start the season and is third in touchdown catches including five straight games with a touchdown. Thielen has produced double-digit fantasy points in every game and has at least 17 fantasy points in seven straight games. This week we should see more of the same from Thielen as he is in a fantastic match-up against Nevin Lawson.

Medium Tier

Robert Woods ($7,600 FD, $7,000 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
@NO 30.25 235.71 52.3 32nd 16.75 FD, 20.88 DK

Woods is one of my favorite receivers on this slate when you factor in salary as he has been as consistent as they come. Woods has at least seven targets in all but one game and has seven straight games with at least five catches for 70 yards. Woods is also in the best possible match-up for wide receivers this week as he takes on a Saints team that ranks dead last in fantasy points allowed per game, DVOA and passing yards allowed per game.

Sammy Watkins ($6,700 FD, $4,900 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
@CLE 30.00 186.38 40.7 2nd 13.07 FD,16.63 DK

Watkins has had a couple of bad games this season but for the most part has been really good with at least four catches for at least fifty yards in five of his seven games including in three of his past four. Watkins has at least nine fantasy points in those games and I don’t see that changing this week as he takes on the Browns who have allowed at least 35 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers in all but one game this year. Watkins is also going to get a boost with Tyreek Hill not expected to be 100% though he is expected to play.

DeSean Jackson ($6,600 FD, $5,000 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
 @CAR 24.50 161.57 34.7 17th 13.44 FD, 16.44 DK

The only reason why I like Jackson this week is due to Ryan Fitzpatrick being under center. Fitzpatrick is a huge upgrade for the Bucs wide receivers as Jameis Winston targeted tight ends more than his wide receivers. Fitzpatrick is the exact opposite and he really loves DeSean Jackson. The best stat to show how much Fitzpatrick loves Jackson and vice versa comes from Graham Barfield over at NFL.com. Since the start of last season in games where Fitzpatrick has attempted more than 15 passes which he will this week, Jackson is averaging 16.2 points per game using PPR scoring which is tenth best in the NFL during that span. That is an amazing stat and makes Jackson one of my favorite wideouts on this slate as I was already very high on the Bucs passing game.

Value Tier

D.J. Moore ($5,300 FD, $4,300 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
vs. TB 30.50 197.14 47.5 31st 11.73 FD, 14.71 DK

Torrey Smith is out against the Bucs and that makes Moore an elite of elite plays. With Smith out last game, Moore played a season-high 46 snaps and saw a season-high six targets. Moore turned those targets into five catches for 90 yards and that was his third time in his past four games with at least four catches for at least 49 yards receiving. This week we should see similar production from Moore as the Bucs are an elite match-up. This season they rank in the bottom two in passing yards allowed per game, DVOA against wide receivers and fantasy points allowed per game to the position.

Courtland Sutton ($5,500 FD, $3,900 DK)
Opponent Team Total Opponent Passing Yards Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent Fantasy Points Allowed Per Game to Wide Receivers Opponent DVOA Against Wide Receivers FantasyCruncher Projection
vs. HOU 23.50 155.25 33.8 30th 10.62 FD, 13.03 DK

In case you were I don’t know asleep for the past three or four days the Broncos have freed Sutton by trading Demaryius Thomas. With Thomas gone that is going to move Sutton up to the Broncos number two wide receiver slot and in theory he should see more targets as Thomas was averaging seven targets a game. The projected bump in usage makes Sutton one of the best values on this slate as he had been producing in his limited playing time with at least for yards receiving or a touchdown in five straight games.

Other Wide Receivers to Consider

Antonio Brown ($8,800 FD, $8,400 DK), DeAndre Hopkins ($8,600 FD, $8,300 DK), Mike Evans ($7,900 FD, $8,100 DK), Julio Jones ($8,500 FD, $7,900 DK), Michael Thomas ($8,600 FD, $7,600 DK), John Brown ($6,400 FD, $5,800 DK), Devin Funchess ($6,400 FD, $5,600 DKDannynny Amendola ($5,400 FD, $4,700 DK), Chris Godwin ($5,900 FD, $4,400 DK), Tre’Quan Smith ($5,100 FD, $4,200 DK), David Moore ($5,800 FD, $3,900 DK)
