The Starting 5: Expert Fantasy Football Lineup Picks to Build a Winning NFL DFS Roster on FanDuel for Week 7 of the 2018-2019 Season.
In this post, we highlight 5 key plays (one at each position) that we recommend for the given week of the 2018-2019 NFL DFS season.
QB – Kirk Cousins, MIN @ NYJ, $8,000
With the volume we’re getting from Cousins this year (43.3 ATT/GM) and third-highest on the main slate this week, I have a hard time passing up Cousins. I expect he’ll be somewhat popular in week 7 as a result of this as well as the softness of the Jets against the QB position of late (321.5 yards, 2 TDs and 21.5 FDP in the last 4 games) – but that doesn’t mean I am going to shy away. This is a week where plenty of value is evident at RB, WR and TE – and Cousins is highly stackable with guys like our WR selection below or even a pivot to Stefon Diggs. Look for him to finish as a top 5 option if not lead the slate in fantasy points when all is said and done.
RB – Todd Gurley, LA @ SF, $10,200
Gurley’s salary is on the rise yet again, and he is now the only one on the main slate over the $8,500 mark in week 7. That’s a pretty remarkable stat and we haven’t seen that kind of discrepancy in quite some time. He’s a must-start in cash games without question and is still highly relevant for GPPs on a slate with plenty of apparent value – especially against a SF defense that has allowed more than 1 TD on the ground to opposing RBs in the last 4 weeks (as well as nearly 50 receiving yards per game to the position). He continues to bring elite consistency in production in a high variance sport, with 22+ FDP in each of his 6 games this year and a monster 208 yard performance with 2 more TDs last week. Plug him in and once again – move on.
WR – Adam Thielen, MIN @ NYJ, $8,700
Thielen is not only an elite stacking option if you choose to roll with Cousins, but in a way he’s the WR version of Todd Gurley this week from a model of consistency perspective. He has at least 10 targets in each game this year and at least 102 yards receiving on that volume, too. Last week he converted 11 of 15 targets for 123 yards and a score for his third straight 21+ FDP week. He will once again be a key piece of the Minnesota game plan despite solid DVOA metrics for NYJ this year against WR1s and WR2s, but he’s performed well against tough defenses this year and I always take that with a grain of salt for high-end talents. You can easily spend down at WR2/WR3 slots – but I am more than happy to roster a high-reliability guy like Thielen as my WR1 in cash games at a minimum.
TE – Zach Ertz, PHI vs CAR, $7,500
The Panthers are one of the softest teams in 2018 against the TE position, ranking 25th in DVOA to date despite doing a really good job at WR1s (3rd in DVOA). I expect Carson Wentz will look Ertz’s way a bit more than normal (which is usually 8-10 times at minimum) – which makes him someone I am more than happy to spend up for at the TE position given the plus situation. He’s scored in back-to-back weeks and has at least a TD or 100+ yards receiving in 3 straight – with a realistic floor of around 8-10 points if he happens to be tamed and held to something like 5 catches for 60-70 yards. That kind of floor at the position is great, especially when you’re really not breaking the bank to roster him.
DEF/ST – Buffalo Bills @ IND, $3,400
Given I’ve talked about 4 names to spend up for in the column this week, I do think we should find some savings somewhere. Normally I’m talking about the defense against the Bills, but with how soft the Colts are on that side of the ball, I have a hard time leaning on them for fantasy production. BUF has been a stout group with at least 12 fantasy points in 3 of their last 4, thanks in large part to their abilities to generate turnovers. They have at least 2 INT+FUMBLE outcomes in each of their last 4 games, and they go up against a high volume QB in Andrew Luck (5 INTs in his last 2 games). Luck could still torch them for over 300 yards here – but he’ll make some mistakes and BUF’s secondary will have a chance to make some big plays. For the price, you won’t be sorry you took the opportunity to spend down at this spot on a slate where the higher priced groups don’t jump off the page.
