DraftKings Starting 5 for NFL DFS 2018-2019 Season

Week 2 NFL DFS Starting 5 – Weekly Expert DraftKings Picks & Advice

The Starting 5: Expert Fantasy Football Lineup Picks to Build a Winning NFL DFS Roster on DraftKings for Week 2 of the 2018-2019 Season.

Welcome to the FC Insights Starting 5 column for FanDuel. In this post, we highlight 5 key plays (one at each position) that we recommend for the given week of the 2018-2019 NFL DFS season. The focus of this week’s article covers the week 2 Main slate.

The goal of the DraftKings Starting Five is to cover the best plays for the upcoming week.  It does have a cash game bias, so you will see some chalk recommendations below – but the purpose of it is to help you get a solid core foundation when it comes to building line-ups for the Week.  Make no mistake, where opportunity presents itself, we will pivot away from the chalk – but again, we want to recommend a core build that can set you up in good position for cash game success!

QB – Pat Mahomes @ PIT, $6,100

Mahomes went up against a tough Chargers defence in Week 1 and sliced and diced it – largely thanks to Tyreke Hill’s game breaking ability.  Mahomes is priced affordably, and in a game that should be a shootout, he is a great options under center for Week 2.  If the Chiefs fall behind in this one, it will turn them to the air with more frequency, something that I could see playing out.  He has a nice floor due to his scrambling ability – and is my favourite QB by a rather wide margin, once you factor in DraftKings prices for Week 2.

RB – James Conner, vs. KC, $6,700

Many may balk at the elevated price point for Conner – but I won’t be in that camp.  The sample size is growing for Le’Veon Bell replacements, and when you go back over time and look at how fill-ins have fared when Bell is out, you’ll see that they really don’t miss much – if anything at all from a fantasy standpoint.  Conner should continue to be leaned on heavily, and going up against a vulnerable run defence that finished dead last in the NFL a year ago in terms of DVOA against the run.  I like his chances of having another big fantasy week in Week 2.  There are plenty of value plays on the board at WR this week, which means you can easily pair Conner with your pick of Kamara/Gurley for a high spend.

WR – Emmanuel Sanders, $6,200 vs. OAK

To some, this may wreak of chasing points, but I love what I saw from Sanders in Week 1.  He worked out of the slot in just under half of his snaps, and really excelled in this role, hauling in 10 receptions on 11 targets for 135 yards and a score.  He draws a plus match-up against Oakland this week, and is priced reasonably for a home match-up against the Raiders.  He doesn’t break the bank, and is a great mid-priced play at the position for Week 2 contests.

TE – George Kittle, SF $3,800 vs DET

Kittle was targeted nine times in the opener, hauling in 5 balls for 90 yards in Week 1’s loss against Minnesota.  This week, Kittle draws an easier match-up as the 49ers host Detroit, who will be on a short week after Monday night’s loss.  Kittle left plenty of points on the field in Week 1, but he remains a high floor, high ceiling option at the position.  Look for OC Kyle Shanahan to get the TE involved early and often this week, and he is one of my favourite dollar for dollar options on the board.

DEF/ST – Los Angeles Chargers @ BUF, $3,600

The Chargers destroyed the Buffalo offence a year ago in the infamous Nathan Peterman debut game.  This week, they are on the road – which is the only downside here, as they travel to Buffalo for a Week 2 match-up in Orchard Park.  The Chargers have a strong pass rush, a quality secondary, and I look for them to expose the Buffalo offence yet again.  They are a rock solid play for Week 2 match-ups.
