Let’s get started…
Pitcher: Stephen Strasburg – Hands down Strasburg is the pitcher I want today. He is everything I look for in a starting pitcher. He is a strikeout machine that averaged 10.96 strikeouts per nine innings. He also dominated the Braves last season and in his two starts, Strasburg did not give up a run and had 13 strikeouts in 11 innings. The win should also be there as the Nationals are huge -185 favorites.
Batter: David Peralta – Peralta is just too cheap for his match-up. He is batting cleanup for the potent Arizona lineup and faces a pitcher in Tyler Chatwood who has not pitched in the majors since 2014. Chatwood has also proven that he is not a very good pitcher especially against lefties and for his career he has a WHIP of 1.66 against them and is allowing a wOBA of .353 to them. Peralta crushed right-handed pitching and last season he hit .325 with an ISO of .228 and a wOBA of .397 against them. I am predicting big things from Peralta today.
Pitcher: Kenta Maeda – Zach talked about the top option today for cash games, so I am going to share my favorite GPP pitcher on the board. With Maeda making his first major league start, we really don’t have much to go on other than his Japan Centra League results, Spring Training and reputation. Well – all 3 of these things work in his favor as he looks to make a smooth transition to the bigs. His price point on FD is just over $7,000 and he is shaping up to be in an excellent spot going up against arguably the league’s worst offense (San Diego). He should have no trouble turning in a strong outing and giving you something like 7 IP, 5-6 Ks and a win in Petco.
Batter: John Jaso – I absolutely love the price point and fact he hits at the top of the order for cash game purposes. He’s looked very solid as the first baseman for the Pirates and is going up against Mike Leake on Wednesday who does not miss many bats. He is very good at putting the bat on the ball and generating hard contact (37% in 2015, second only to Andrew McCutchen at 40% on the Pirates). He makes for a very solid cash game option for us on Wednesday thanks to his spot in the order and his mound opponent.
Pitcher: Stephen Strasburg
Strasburg is my favourite arm today, and really it isn’t even close for the 7pm slate. He misses bats at an elite clip, has a great match-up – and isn’t going to break the bank in order for you to roster him with fairly soft pricing across all sites. He’s a rock solid option to build your teams around today.
Batter: Bryce Harper
I’m not afraid to go with a barbell approach when choosing my hitters when there are many pricing irregularities, and if I am spending up, I’m spending up for Harper tonight. He’s one of – if not the best hitter in the game, and tonight he faces Bud Norris, who was banished to the minors last year after struggling mightily with the Orioles. Harper is a cornerstone that you can build your Wednesday line-ups around.
