Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks for 9/17/14

Daily fantasy baseball picks for September 17, 2014 (9/17/14) to help set your Draftster, FanDuel and DraftKings lineups.

Let’s get right down to it and look at 3 hitters and 2 pitchers that I believe have plenty of opportunity to help guide your team to victory in today’s contests.

Matt Kemp is turning up his power stroke in September…

Over the last 30 days he’s hitting .302 with 7 HR, 22 RBI and a hefty .635 slugging percentage (96 at bats). That’s a 43 home run rate extrapolated across 600 at bats. We all know what Kemp is capable of doing when healthy, and he’s proving many preseason doubters wrong by having a very solid 2014 season. His career numbers against today’s opponent (Jorge De La Rosa) are tasty – .417 average, 3 HR, 12 RBI and a 1.269 OPS. He looks like a fine play in any and all contests for September 17.

I’m going out on a limb here to recommend Billy Butler today…

There are a couple things that may make you raise an eyebrow when seeing Butler as a pick today in daily games. He’s facing White Sox ace Chris Sale who is having another great season. He’s also 0 for his last 14. On the other side of the coin, his career numbers against Sale are nothing short of eye-popping considering how good the lanky lefty is. He’s 14 for 39 against him with 3 HR, 10 RBI and has a 1.050 OPS. Clearly he sees the ball well off Sale, and is a worthwhile gamble considering his rock-bottom price tag ($2,200 on FanDuel; $3,300 on DraftKings; $3,000 on Draftster). Just make sure he is in the Royals’ lineup before plugging him into yours.

Miggy Miggy Miggy, can’t you see? Yes, yes we can…

What does Kyle Gibson + Miguel Cabrera + important games for Detroit equal? Simple. A locked-in Miggy. He’s 9 for his last 25 at bats with 1 HR and a 1.027 OPS and had a nice game against Gibson his last time out. For a nice safe play today, run Miguel Cabrera out there and enjoy the ride.

Madison Bumgarner is hands-down the ace to roll with in today’s games…

He’s fresh off tossing an absolute gem against the Dodgers 5 days ago, and will be looking to keep the good times rolling today in the desert taking on the Diamondbacks. Yesterday I recommended running Jake Peavy as a value play, and he came through with a great performance himself (7.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 4 SO and a Win). Today is no different, with an even better pitcher on the mound against the lowly Arizona offense. The cherry on top is to remind you back in June when he was last in Arizona, he twirled a 8 IP, 7 K gem giving up only 2 hits and 0 ER while grabbing a Win.

[image type=”rounded” src=”http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/229/files/2014/08/brandon-mccarthy-mlb-texas-rangers-new-york-yankees-850×560.jpg” alt=”Brandon McCarthy”]

On the value side, Brandon McCarthy is my pick to have a nice game…

McCarthy was someone I identified earlier in the season as a buy-low candidate when his ERA and xFIP/FIP were shouting positive regression back to the mean. Since that time he’s made me look like a genius, posting sub-3 ERAs in July, August and September to go along with almost a K per inning. In his last start against Tampa Bay, he went 6.1 IP deep and struck out 7 batters while yielding only 4 hits and 2 ER on the road. It’s a matchup of Alex Cobb and McCarthy tonight which should be a low-scoring affair all-around. If you want to run out a starting pitcher that many will overlook in today’s contests, look no further than the tall Yankees’ righty.

Martinez, Carlos Santana, Aramis Ramirez, Mike Trout, Kendrys Morales, Robinson Cano, Josh Donaldson, Alberto Callaspo, Cameron Maybin, Jimmy Rollins, Marlon Byrd, Chase Utley
